I was wondering if someone has come across this issue and resolved, and how?
I’m having an issue with trying to play from the Plex Xbox One app…
…when I try to play a .mkv file from my Plex server on a WD My Cloud on the same local network as the Xbox One it comes up with the message “This server is not powerful enough to convert…”.
However I have just connected to the same Plex server as mentioned above using a Fire Stick (Plex app) but over the Internet (from a bog standard hotel connection) and I’m amazed to find the files play fine?!?
Why can’t the more powerful Xbox One (on a LAN) handle something that the Fire Stick (over internet) can handle with no problems!

It has nothing to do with the devices power but rather what codecs and formats are available for that device. Between the Fire Stick and a Xbox One the most likely culprit would be srt subtitles. The Fire device should be able to load the srt’s as side car while the Xbox One would need to burn them into the video stream which requires a video transcode.
The message itself is saying that your WD My Cloud isn’t powerful enough to convert the video stream in question. Your Plex Media Server.log would show why the Xbox One thinks it needs to transcode.
