I’m noticing incredibly low CPU usage on the latest plex pass transcoder, even when I’m transcoding audio along with video.
I use NVenc on a 1050ti for hardware acceleration on Ubuntu 18.04.
On my dashboard, Audio shows as Transcode, but no (hw) like the video stream does.
Is the transcoder doing audio transcoding onboard the GPU or has it made some sort of massive leap in CPU based audio transcoding performance?
Great job on the product, Plex team.
There never was any hardware support for audio transcoding.
And audio transcoding requires much, much less cpu resources than video transcoding.
Yes, but the CPU usage I USED to see on plex transcoder was a lot higher than what I’m seeing now.
Maybe NVDec has been enabled?
I guess audio encoding was a LOT less cpu-intensive than I thought.
CPU utilization has been negligible since 1.18.1846.
“zero-copy” support is actually quite impactful.
There we go! Thank you very much.
I skipped a few versions due to the “Rare crash when scanning” bug.
