There was a problem converting 1 item - Invalid metadata

Latest version of Plex (synology). Im having a problem optimizing .raw images for mobile. I get this error:
There was a problem converting 1 item. Check the status in Optimized Versions Settings.
Invalid metadata
Any idea?

Where are you seeing an option to optimize a photo?

Here is the process that Im having problems with.

Option is here Optimize

Optimize settings

Seems to have worked but…

But it never does for .rar files

Here is the error

The files are .raw files from a nikon d800 camera.

Plex should be able to convert these. See your website:

https://www.plex.tv/features/photos/

Original quality in any format

Add and manage as many photos and videos as you want, without sacrificing a pixel of quality, as long as your server has the space. Plex can handle virtually any file format you throw at it. Most cloud solutions compress files when you upload them so they never look as good as the day you took them. Not Plex! Now, all those hours of glorious scuba footage and sunsets, no matter how ginormous the file size, will be right at home on your Plex Media Server and ready for streaming.

Image Formats

JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, RAW + more

Thanks for the help and I look forward to problem solving the issue with you.

Regards

Chris

it can display them, which is all that paragraph states. but pretty sure optimize being in that menu is a mistake. else the option would be there when viewing a single photo as well. (the error happens on any type of photo i try) I’m waiting on word from one of the web app developers.

Media Optimizer
Create optimized versions of your media for seamless streaming on whichever device you choose.

 Does state the feature.

Please note this is stated on the photos page.

That is in the list of all features, not just photo features. but I suppose it should say “video” and not “media” to avoid confusion. But still waiting on info from web app or server devs to confirm.

Yes it should. I paid for plex with this option in mind. I suggested you make this clear and change the website. So far I’m not impressed with you as a company.

HI,

It is a public forum. That is all it is nothing more.

I just got this via email. Your site says support use the forum. While via direct contact I’m told it’s just a public forum. A public forum is very different to a support forum.

I was very excited to start using Plex. So far I see a process for support that is slow, broken and unclear. The only way I got you to see my problem was to use the website form correctly to get my forum post checked. I then show my problem only to find out that your website is unclear in the information it presents.

That option is free and a Plex Pass is not required for it. It is in the free and paid columns of comparison chart because everyone gets it.

I have spoken to the devs and they confirmed that option being there for photos is a bug as it only works for video in TV and movie libraries. Yes i will ask for the description to be clarified

Then your site needs to be updated to reflect that.

I tried your software for free first and it is presented as an option with the images. It is misleading on your website and in the software its self.

The option seems to be an option and now you have concluded it is a bug and should not even be shown in the image options. The website is misleading having all the features on the image page and nothing clearly stating that optimising is only for video media and not for all types of image files.

“One” of the reasons for buying Plex was so I could include my .raw files and have Plex optimise them for mobile. Mainly so I would only have one copy on my main computer and my NAS (with Plex installed) would sort out other versions for mobile. Saving me having to convert the files myself and having 2 libraries. One for Plex and one high res on my computer.

You need to be clear if you are going to be selling a product. I know the option is free but seeing this help me decide that it would be worth buying a Plex Pass!

I will check your site at the end of the week and if nothing has happen I will report my findings to Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
