There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard, W7, SP1+, three fresh installs

I have installed PMS (aptly named by the way) three times. First install obviously nothing was there. Second and third times, I uninstalled PMS, deleted all traces of the program, including the registry key mentioned.

The error log files are all empty.

Lots of people are having this problem, why aren’t there any answers?
What else can I send you to help get past this?
If I missed the answer, sorry, please point me to it.

HP-G70, 256GB SSD, 4GB ram, Intel T6500
Only plan on using this as a local server.

Thanks, Fred

had the same problem, restarting the plex server solved the problem. Or restart your computer.

Each install was done from a restart, so doubt that is the problem.
PMS is about impossible to stop without a power down or restart.
But I will try it in the morning. Thanks, Fred

@shawnmccauley

I am so upset at wasting all that time, I realized I misread your post last night…

For the first two installs I did do a shutdown on one and a restart on the other.

Then the next problem occurred: although it loaded PMS, which I verified via the Task Manger, it would not open FireFox nor would it open a new tab if FireFox was already running. I also verified that the start menu icon was pointing to the proper location. Which I really didn’t need to since I verified it was loaded via TM.

I did not try using IE, since I don’t use it. Don’t use Google Chrome either.

Thanks again, Fred

I do see this from time-to-time. I don’t have any proof of this but I believe this can be a timeout type of thing.
If PMS can’t connect/load the bd fast enough it will time out. I also get this for Tautulli.

I notice this more when I encode videos but still happens nonetheless.
I just wish there was more helpful information than “There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard”.

Well I’m no software engineer, but I would be looking into the event viewer and see if there is anything in there about plex. I did have the same problem right after install and reboot, it didn’t load the webpage. I forced plex to shutdown and I restarted it, and it worked. Looks like either you are missing a DLL loading or maybe you have a plugin on Firefox that is blocking the site from loading.

I would recommend that you start Firefox with no extensions loading and try to see if that helps.

I am not even to the point where I can do anything like play a movie, this is fresh out of install after selecting my Media folder. So I don’t see how it can be a timeout problem.

What is “bd”? Yesterday was my first three attempts at installing Plex.

Thanks, Fred

Good thought about starting FF without the plugins. I don’t have many, but who knows.

I’ll give it a try and report back.

Thanks, Fred

My bad… misspelled. It’s the database plex uses.

No joy on starting in SafeMode. Same exact problem, it does not popup Firefox or it doesn’t popup Plex, but Plex stuff shows up in the Task manager
image

The only Plex related error in Event Viewer is: “The Plex Update Service service terminated unexpectedly.”

I have a quad core i7, running W10 Pro. I’ll move over to that and see if the results are the same. This is a HP-G70, 256GB SSD, 4GB ram, Intel T6500. Not quite an i3, but since I was only going to stream locally I figured it should work.

Check back later with results.

Thanks, Fred

I followed their naming convention:
c:\Users\Brenda\Media\TV Shows\Big Bang Theory\Season 01\BBT - s01e01.mp4

But it never makes it that far.

Cheers, Fred

You did for the most part. But I don’t see this being the issue. Heck, a bad naming convention would only help in terms of series cause it’s not gonna load them so that less plex needs to load.

What error logs do you mean? The installer logs? Not much help here cause the product installs. We might need your server logs.
settings → troubleshooting → download logs.

Tell me where I went wrong on the naming convention and I will straighten that out.
I assume you mean all of you log files.Uploading: Logs.zip…
Hope these are the right ones. Since I can’t get Plex to run I located these.
If wrong give me a better clue and I will send them.

The test on the quad core i7, running W10 Pro failed in exactly the same manner.
“There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard”
A retry did not help and a power down did not help.
After power down when I clicked on the “Plex server” icon I did notice a brief flash of a 1/4 screen popup. Task manager shows the same as on the W7 machine.

Next?

Thanks, Fred

@NewPlaza

Sorry forgot to include you handle in my reply.

Fred

c:\Users\Brenda\Media\TV Shows\Big Bang Theory\Season 01\ BBT - s01e01.mp4
to
c:\Users\Brenda\Media\TV Shows\Big Bang Theory\Season 01\ Big Bang Theory - s01e01.mp4
But again, this should not be causing your issues.

Wait, from your OP I thought plex is up and running you just can get the dashboard to load. Am I correct in this assumption?

No biggie. I’m tracking this thread so i get notified on all replies.
Your logs did not take. try again. Simply drag the zip file into the reply window.

@NewPlaza
So the “outside name” and “inside name” have to match.
This would be legal then:
c:\Users\Brenda\Media\TV Shows\BBT\Season 01\BBT - s01e01.mp4

I used the upload arrow last time and it never resolved.

Logs.zip (1.2 MB)

Cheers, Fred

@NewPlaza

Sorry, They only time it will start the Plex Server tab in Firefox is when I do the initial install. That is when I get the error message and retry does not work. From that point on I can not get the Plex Sever tab to popup in Firefox.

Thanks, Fred

No, absolutely not. You cannot do this ever! You got the realize that plex gets this information from online sources and if it’s not at least understandable plex will fail to match. BBT can be anything and is hardly a description. If you are ever in doubt goto thetvdb.com and check the name of the series.
Most people like to include the year to nip any possible confusion that may occur when a series is remade. I would also say do it. I know I do.

looking at logs now…

Looks like yesterday your database was very corrupt. Hundreds more of these.

Seems like you might use DVR. I know nothing about that feature so not much I can say there.

This seems odd.
