All of those files were created from the original DVDs by using the program “WinX DVD to iPad Ripper” by Digiarty. There were no errors reported during the process.
They play just fine on my Samsung TV through the media USB port. I know that means little, just trying to give you information.
Where do start to understand this?
Does Plex recommend a DVD to mp4 ripper?
What do you use?
My intent for this is to have a local server so that I can park my movies, TV shows, all ripped so I can get to them from iTV or Roku in one of three locations in our house.
I will convert my naming convention over to what you said. Where do I add the year?
Off to look thetvdb.com
Here are the files I was talking about that were empty:
c:\Users\Brenda\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server*Crash Reports*\1.14.1.5488-cc260c476\
[PLEX DLNA SERVER] 0 k in 0 files
[PLEX MEDIA SCANNER] 0 k in 0 files
[PLEX MEDIA SERVER] 0 k in 0 files
[PLEX TUNER SERVICE] 0 k in 0 files
I will do the proper naming, blow away the Plex databases and try again.
Some will say yes, some will say no. I say yes cause it identifies your files better. I hope I do not get to technical but plex will use the folder name to determine the series. That being said, The folder name “BBT” won’t work(although, ironically, that actually does work for that particular series). But again… Do not shorten the name like that. The Big Bang Theory was a bad example of this because it worked but you will not get that lucky on the rest of the shows you may add.
In all honesty, no. “The” can usually be dropped without issue. Some may argue this but the RULE I believe is to have it exact to thetvdb. I can tell you I drop all “the” and “a” from the title and have no issues. That’s up to you.
Ha, a Total Commander user! Awesome!! It’s a great program. I don’t find to many people who use it.
You may give it a few seconds and try again. If not then it’s probably the updater.
It can be completely disabled in system services but I not sure if’s that’s a good idea, lol!
EDIT: if you can’t delete after lunch then you can reboot your system and exit plex then try again, or you can stop the running system service then delete the files, then start the services back up.
A Reboot should work though.
I cleared out my media folder and left only:
c:\Users\Brenda\
[Media] 0 k in 0 files
[Media\Movies] 0 k in 0 files
[Media\Music] 0 k in 0 files
[Media\TV Shows] 0 k in 0 files
It failed just as always. Here are the log files Logs.zip (1.7 MB)
I’m at a total and complete loss. Remember I am not using Plex Pass and I am not allowing the server to be seen on the network.
I can see not much changed with your efforts.
Let’s do this step-by-step.
EDIT: The below will wipe all traces of plex and your settings and everything else. You will have to recreate all your libraries back, any custom edits to posters, title, everything.
1). Right-click PMS icon un-select “Start Plex Media Server at Login”<-very important.
2). Reboot system.
3). Uninstall plex.
4). Reboot system
5). Delete the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. registry key.
6). Delete the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server. I guess in your case this would be C:\Users\Brenda\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server …Be sure the entire folder is deleted.
7). Install PMS…DO NOT launch plex after the install.
8). Restart system.
9). Start plex(Should start automatically after the reboot.)
I’ll tackle it in the AM.
I also created a Media chain that has one song in it.
Do you want to use the blank Media chain?
I think it is best, one less fly in the ointment.
BTW, Plex Server runs at startup, but doesn’t show in Task Manager, unless it has a different name. Does it?
I have been using Total Command since it was Windows Commander and came on a 3.5” floppy :-). I absolutely love that program.
That option is not available in W7 icon.
I disabled it using autoruns and did up to 6.
7. I thought it did an automatic launch, but will try. and see what happens.
My bad. I meant that others can not access my server. The option during setup. I live in the foothills of the Cascades and only get 500kbps upload wouldn’t do anyone any good.
Didn’t know that. It sucks that Microsoft forced Christian to change the name but it actually help him in the long run. He ported the code to many OSes and devices. I’ve had a few talks with him… Seems like a nice fella.
I see.
I suppose that’s okay. Just restart system.
But the real idea with the above steps was to “clear all” traces of plex including the database.
I think you will be ok as long as step6 was completed in its entirety.
Above is where I stopped in the process. All of the above were done by Plex. I did not touch anything.
Would you like all the log files to see where we are?
I agree Christian is a good person. I used to do lots of charity work and used TC on numerous computers in different places. He said it was okay if I only bought one license for each different place, not for every computer. Plus he helped me through a couple things I couldn’t figure out.
You should have nothing at this point.
You can now create your libraries back. Start with one of them. Let it do the scan and report back. Try with a small sample of files. Nothing to big… Say something under 100 files(movies, pictures)
Looking at Plex Media Scanner Analysis.log file and I saw this.
Doing expensive tags write for ‘IMGP0855’ because something changed.
Doing expensive tags write for ‘IMGP0855’ because something changed.
Doing expensive tags write for ‘IMGP0855’ because something changed.
That file has been static since 2009, it sure isn’t changing.
Why is Plex scouring the entire drive looking for objects?
It is not in the Media directory structure.
