theXReader App (Comic Book Reader)

I have built a complete app around the app. That’s how I solved the problem of having both Plex inside and my own plugins. Everything is supported. From PDFs, CBR, CBZ etc. The preliminary work is just to tag the files correctly. Here I also have scripts that do the rest. Also the description of the comics I use ChatGPT to get more information about each comic
I have also integrated my own emulator plugin. By the way, it looks like this. Here the ChatGPT technique is mega interesting because it also brings in background information about the programming.

At the moment, I’ve done it completely for myself. But I’m always working on it and building on it. Let’s see how far I get with it. I’m also thinking about making an iPad / iPhone app to read the comics. I don’t like it on the computer monitor at all. There will also be a favorites list.

Is there any way for us to use you’re project?

Unfortunately not yet. I have to automate some things so that everyone can use it. Example If you want to add a comic you need a special formatting so that it recognizes it correctly. Once formatted, it always works 1000%. I have created a shell script for this which helps. But it’s not nice yet and currently Mac exclusive!

Version update

This is still a feature request thread.

Maybe Plex can copy the things he is creating. He is basically giving Plex the roadmap on what can be done, since he is doing it. It is not release notes, since he has actually not release anything. People have been asking for this for years. He might be willing to give you the code if you would incorporate it and maintain it. Just a thought.

Did you complete this and is it for sale?

Hey everyone,

we’re currently in the final polishing stage and getting very close to releasing the final version — so I wanted to share a little sneak peek with you.

Our project takes comic reading to the next level:

  • Automatically detects comics, series, issues, and release years

  • Take your comics everywhere with you and read them on PC, tablets, and mobile phones

  • Automatically recognizes panels for a smooth and modern reading experience

  • Translates comics into 27 languages

  • Can even read them aloud for you

Our goal is to make comics as modern, comfortable, and accessible as possible — wherever you are.

And yes: an Apple TV version is also planned, so you’ll be able to enjoy comics directly on your TV.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas. What do you think?

@derlordhelmchen it this legit ?
1+ if it is a ebook and audio book reader, Would love it even more if it did comic books aswell

Also where is the vote button for this ?

Yeah, I’m just putting the finishing touches on it now. But it’s specifically for comics (for now). I think I’ll need another two weeks at most, then I’ll be done. I’m just fixing the bugs. Everything else is finished. It’s taken a few years now. The first version that worked was a nightmare when it came to recognizing comics and wasn’t suitable for the general public. The current one is perfect.

And it translates every comic into 27 languages with voice narration. The animations look amazing, too. I’ll post a video soon to show you what it looks like.

Hi everyone,

quick update: theXReader is now finished and we are currently submitting the app to the App Store.

Here is a live preview recorded directly inside the app:

We’re really excited to finally get started and share it with everyone.

Thanks again for all the feedback and ideas along the way.

Qq’s, is there a TestFlight we can join to test the app across the devices? Also, what is the server. What is housing the files and pulling the info down for use?

  • Gracias

You can use it directly without a server—just locally on your device or tablet. If you can use it as a server, like with Plex, then your PC or Mac acts as the server.
I still need to update a few images, so it’ll be available for download in the store soon. But you can also download CBR/CBZ files on the go using your phone or tablet and then sync them with your server later.

This sounds interesting indeed. If you have any TF [TestFlight] versions you would like to have tested &/or provide feedback on. Keep me in mind.

  • Gracias

Me too.

Awesome, what about Plex on tv apps will they work with it? Many thanks

I’m still working on getting Apple’s approval. I hope we can go live this time around. The first version will be available for Apple TV, followed by Fire TV. Do you have any specific requests?

So first, appreciate your swift reply. I use it on all my device platforms, as I’m never sure which one I will be using day to day. However, my main TV in the lounge is a Samsung UE55U8000FKXXU using Samsung’s Tizen OS v1296.

But I will be looking forward to running it all on the following devices on a daily basis when you’re all caught up: Apple devices (macOS, iPad, iOS), Samsung devices (Android), Microsoft devices (Windows). Last but not least, I also use a device running Ubuntu (Linux).

As a PlexPass user, I appreciate everything you guys do. I will add that even though I am also subscribed to Floatplane and a few other streaming services so I also use it for offline streaming some useful videos like tutorials and training videos, so I do wonder if either the shows style would work for this genre.

Kind Regards

Kye

and leave this thread to its original purpose.

I can move any relevant posts over, if you want.

Yes, that would be great it would be really nice if we could set that up in its own group.
