i cringe EVERY TIME i see an update from plex… i have been running this application since 2013 and every update is wrapped in scary sauce… i hold my breath with every one of them - this one has been the worst so far.
to start with, i am no longer accessible outside OR inside my network… the plex settings will tell you that i am - but i am not even accessible on my wifi anymore, or my phone off of wifi… lovely - i can no longer watch anything - and i’m a chord cutter since 2013.
secondly… my database must have blown up because my entire library has been wiped out - GONE!! (the database info - not the actual files)… over 6500 movies and 250 tv shows have to be setup and added again, with full categories - the whole bit!.. my history? - all GONE too!!
what’s even more strange is that all the users that are connected to my server are still here and connectable so how can just certain parts of the DB be completely gone?
adding this amount of data will take DAYS!.. updating all the pics… the sharing privileges… the grinding of the engine is so slow… etc…
how? why?
i changed nothing on the server. we (and others) all watched it just last night… i decided to update this morning, 'just 'cause" it had been a while.
any suggestions on ANYthing? the access? the database?
yeah, i was in a scrambling panic earlier… this is the first time this has happened to me with plex… my trusty plex!!
i’m on windows… externals connected through usb… all media still fine, like i said, this was just the db… updated to the newest version (Version 4.42.1)… Version 1.20.1.3252
when attempting to restore an older version of the db and running plex after, everything still starts as a blank server… the way i am able to see is by managing through the desktop.
i’m still very confused as to how all the libraries and history could be erased, but not settings or connected users… is this managed differently somehow?
anyway… i’m just re-adding all the categories now… i’m extremely meticulous with my filenaming and stripping ugly meta data from within so everything will still be fine eventually. i REALLY dislike the movie posters they are pulling as it seems about half of them are not the original movie posters anymore.
i’ll turn my attention to the connectivity shortly after.
thank you for any help.
you’re here for six minutes…
seven years man!!.. seven years i’m running this server and this hasn’t happened.
if anything that statement is still a good word for the plex developers, but i did nothing wrong to corrupt a db or wipe it out or anything close to that. regular upkeep like i have always maintained.
and as i said, within those seven years, each and every plex update is cause for worry cause god knows what’s about to be shaking down thereafter… just look at the threads on here, one after the other all having problems with updates.
