Please help, I’m having problems seeing my library files for TV and Movies. I presume since the latest server update, I’m getting the error message ‘server is not available’. However on the Plex home screen I can see and play all the latest additions to TV and Movies added to library. This is also the same on IOS and ROKU devices I have.
I’m also having this issue. I can upload logs if it would help to troubleshoot.
A good strategy is to
- downgrade to the previous server version. You should find an installer in the Plex data folder, in the subfolder
Updates - perform a thorough database rebuild, using GitHub - ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases
- verify that all libraries are working as expected
- verify that there is plenty of free space on the storage volume which has the plex data folder on it (on Windows, that is C: by default)
- perform the server update again, and upon first start let it do its database updates undisturbed – even if takes a few hours (see Plex Media Server - #612 by drzoidberg33 )
Don’t let the machine go into hibernation and don’t shut it down during this time!
Hi thank you for your help. I’ve downgraded to the previous version but I’m struggling on the basics of installing the DB Repair utility, I’m not DOS savvy. Is there a Windows version of this utility?
There is no need to install anything. You just unzip it, then double-click the .bat file
Hi I’ve unzipped the .bat file and run as admin, but it tries to open a Windows Dos box but then it immediately closes. I’ve tried it in the download folder and in the main C: drive but both do the same.
Not correct. It must be running under the same Windows user account, that is also used to run Plex server.
Which is usually the regular user account into which you are logging in when working on that machine (unless you are running Plex server as a Windows service, but I understand that is not the case here).
Hi, I only have this PC set as the Plex-Server to which it is set to automatically login on start up with myself as administrator. I’ve not changed to another user account for this machine and the Plex server opens and runs in the background. Its been running on this same PC for at least a couple of years.
Would I be better off uninstalling plex and starting a new install?
That depends on how many metadata your serve rhas collected over the years. Particularly how much worth you put into the “watched” status of each video, as well as the results of the various analyses, like intro and credits detection, or sonic and loudness analysis for music.
Before you do anything of that sort, please tell more detailed, what the above means.
Are you saying that all Plex clients have no issue accessing your server, and only the dedicated Windows Player for Plex has the issue?
If that is the case, I’d try first to uninstall the player only and wipe its configuration, but not the server.
Hi, yes all my clients can access the server but are all having the same issue that they are not able to see the TV & Movie libraries.
I view Plex either by the web browser or the Windows Plex app and both are showing the same problem, which is pointing me to the DB being damaged. The last plex update release notes do mention the DB can only work with server versions 1.31.2 or higher. My server version is 1.40.0.7998 so I thought this would be okay.
I do not want to loose all the watch statuses/meta data as my NAS libraries are quite extensive. (40TB and an addition 8TB of raid storage on my plex server pc.)
Looks like I would loose too much so I need to get the DB repair tool to work, would starting the PC in ‘Safe Mode’ help?
No.
There is no need for the right-click and explicitly selected “Run as Administrator”. Just double click the .bat file.
You should close the Plex server using its task tray icon beforehand.
Did you install the 32bit or the 64bit version?
Hi, thank you for getting back to me, yes I down graded to the previous plex server and installed the 64bit version. I’ll try the bat file again after closing the plex server. I’ll get back to you shortly.
Hi, I’ve ran through the process again. Uninstalled the Plex server update 1.40.0.7998, I reinstalled it earlier to see if it made any difference but alas no. I’ve then gone back to an earlier Plex Server update 1.32.6.7557 and installed it.
I closed the plex server on my PC and tried the .bat file again, unfortunately no joy.
The .bat file tries to open a cmd window but then immediately closes and the repair to the data base never starts.
Are there any logs you would like to view to try and resolve this problem for me?
There are no logs, I’m afraid.
Do you know how to open a cmd window? Just start the cmd.exe
then paste the path to the bat file into it, like so:
> cd "C:\Users\myself\Desktop" +Enter (you’ll have to adapt the path to the bat file, to where it’s stored on your machine)
then type in the filename of the bat file and press Enter again
Since you have opened the cmd window beforehand, it will now stay open, so you can see the error message which the bat file is throwing.
Here’s my cmd dos window command lines and system reply answer: -
C:>Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\DBRepair-Windows.bat
‘Program’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
C:>Users\stewa>Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\DBRepair-Windows.bat
Access is denied.
What am I doing wrong?
In the first example, you need to enclose the whole path in double quotes ", because the folder names contain space characters.
And don’t insert the “larger than” character after the C: Use a backslash.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\DBRepair-Windows.bat"
Did you actually download and unzip the bat file into the program folder?
Hi thanks for the double quotes info, this is the reply the system is now showing: -
C:>“C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\DBRepair-Windows.bat”
Could not determine SQLite path.
Normally C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex SQLite.exe
I know that the Plex SQLite.exe is in here: - C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server
Were moving forward ![]()
That means that you have the 32bit version of Plex server installed, not the 64 bit version.
C:\Program Files (x86) is for 32bit apps,
C:\Program Files is for 64 bit apps.
My server PC is 64 bit, the system does have Plex in both:-
C:\Program Files (x86) is for 32bit apps,
and
C:\Program Files is for 64 bit apps.
Also both folders have the Plex SQLite.exe program
Should I download the 64bit plex server file and install again?
