This server is not powerful enough to convert video - DS216Play

Server Version#: DS216Play
Player Version#:

So I was having no issues watching AVIs on my Synology DS216Play on my iPad (at home) using the Plex app until the past week or so. Now, I’m getting error messages saying the server isn;t powerful enough. Did something change? I’ve gone so far as to delete the server from the Nas and install an older version. But the error is still there. Help!

“AVI” is just the container… this can contain lots of different types streams (codecs, bandwidths…). So this poses the follow-up question: Are you experiencing this with files that previously played fine?

Also… considering the DS216 play is indeed not super strong when it comes to adjusting your media for playback on a mobile device / tablet (at least CPUs hw transcoding capabilities are not supported by Plex). Which again poses the question: Did you maybe make some changes to the settings of your iPad (auto quality, switching the experimental player on/off…)?

Hi, thanks for responding. Indeed the files in question were working previously. No issues at all. The playback problem is occurring across all devices, including the web app.

Well, now I feel like a dope. I just checked, after deleting and reinstalling to the latest version, and it’s working.

No idea, but yay.

I do know that the DS216 was underpowered (and have been wondering about the DS218+).

Welp, it’s not working again. It seems like playback is wildly inconsistent these days.
