Tips and tricks

Without Beta there can be no full release. For me I would love to use this instead of the Tivo. I hope the next release for the DVR will be live TV playback and rewind along with watch something that is recording. Down with the Tivo oppressors!

Also would love to know if there are plans to use other TV tuners other than HDHR

I can’t imagine only sticking to HDHR. I do think HDHR (in my humble opinion) are the best and a good launch partner. But usually the support will open up.

Timeshifting will definitely come in a future release. The DVR function would die without it, but there are several things to consider when they add that in so it will take a release or two to add that. That will be an amazing change when that happens.

I am curious if anyone has found a way to be notified if a new beta release is posted? I was looking for a way to subscribe to a post and receive an email but I haven’t found anything yet.

It appears that all of the available shows are showing up in the program guide. For example, the NFL game on Fox is showing up fine, but none of the ABC or NBC games on Sunday are showing up at all. It is the same with the College Football games on Saturday. The Duke vs Notre Dame game at 11am CT on ABC shows up but no other College games on Saturday are showing up. Any ideas?

Have you updated to the DVR Beta2 (1.2.0.2765)?
As those issues were fixed in the Beta2

@robertclemens

Timeshifting will definitely come in a future release.

Hey look, you’re saying dumb things again!

While I think there is a good chance live tv and time shifting will come, its erroneous and disingenuous to say “its definitely coming in a future release.” Plex has addressed it as “its something we are interested in.” Unless you work for Plex, don’t mislead users here by saying something contradictory to their official position on the subject.

Thanks m8

Thanks @hthighway, I’ll update it and take a look!!!

Is there a way to see what channels the guide shows are coming from ?
I’m using the latest beta.

I would be interested in this feature as well.

We all know it will have to come or this DVR will not exist in the future. At least have some common forum decency.
If I’m wrong then I’ll glad “digitally burn” my lifetime plex pass. But we all know it will come just not when.

Thanks for a useless bash post – a real helper aren’t you?

ad hominem attacks aren’t going to get you anywhere

your post was $hit and misleading to those that aren’t in the know, but good effort on the whole back pedaling and personal attack thing

I was wondering why English Premier League games only are found under the Spanish, Futbol Inglés? The games record in English fine.

@Andrroid / @robertclemens ~ knock it off, guys, especially in a completely unrelated thread.

My DVR/HD HomeRun doesn’t show up as a device so can’t change any of the settings on it. In fact, in Settings>Devices, it shows numerous devices (my TVs, iPAD, Kindle, laptop, etc.) but I can’t change the settings on any of them.

I want to change the format of the recordings to something more compatible with all of my devices. I’ve been streaming video successfully from my Synology for a long time, but the records from the Plex DVR are sluggish when they play.

Also, I haven’t successfully been able to record an entire show. It starts to record but stops at some point.

You want the settings on the device in the DVR.

This is a screen shot o
f my DVR set up. There isn’t a “Device Settings” option.

Any chance you’re not running the latest beta? That looks like an older version of the Web UI.

Am I correct in thinking we need DVR beta 4 to get the new bandwidth settings released today? Is there an eta for that release? How soon till these are in sync?

Nope, beta 3 will do it. The trick is to restart PMS and make sure you are using version 2.9.3 of the web client app. Also, click Show Advanced in the setting section.

Very cool!!!

PlexPy alerted me that there was a new version available this morning, but I couldn’t tell you how it knew. It’s possible it was alerting me of PlexPass build update and it just so happens Beta3 was available. I was still stuck on Beta2.

I have an SiliconDust Extend which supports internal H.264 encoding of MPEG2 on the fly. Is there some way to enable this feature to offload the transcoding from the Plex transcoder? Seems that particular model tuner would be perfect for those with an under powered Plex server or NAS if PMS was exploiting the Tuner’s native ability to stream the content in H.264 directly to it.

I only have the transcode feature enabled because I wasn’t able to FF or RW .ts/MPEG2 files with Plex beta1 which may have since been fixed by now. I don’t care too much about file-size reduction because I have 30TB of storage and most of my recordings are set to delete after 1 day of viewing and I only keep 5 current recordings of each show.
