I have an SiliconDust Extend which supports internal H.264 encoding of MPEG2 on the fly. Is there some way to enable this feature to offload the transcoding from the Plex transcoder? Seems that particular model tuner would be perfect for those with an under powered Plex server or NAS if PMS was exploiting the Tuner’s native ability to stream the content in H.264 directly to it.
I only have the transcode feature enabled because I wasn’t able to FF or RW .ts/MPEG2 files with Plex beta1 which may have since been fixed by now. I don’t care too much about file-size reduction because I have 30TB of storage and most of my recordings are set to delete after 1 day of viewing and I only keep 5 current recordings of each show.
My installation is working quite well but I opened Plex Web to an empty program guide today. It reloaded fairly quickly after I clicked refresh and good thing nothing was set to record before I found it… Any known issues about this?
I have another issue I’m not sure how to troubleshoot. When DVR recordings are being deleted, 3:03 AM for me, so is the 11th season of Canada’s Worst Driver. Just that one season and all the episodes from it. The delete process leaves the files in the Recycle Bin so I know it’s deleting the things like the news properly I’m just not sure why it’s picking on this season or if I’ve set something(?) somewhere(?). I just keep restoring the files every morning.
I went to Plex Pass downloads and downloaded the most recent version for my equipment (Linux/Synology ARM 7), which is 1.2.2.2857-d34b464-arm7. DVR isn’t even an option in that version.
I uninstalled and moved back to 1.2.1.2854-3ed5ca1.arm7. DVR is an option but I don’t see Device options for the DVR.
Please give me a link to the correct version for Synology which a) provides DVR capability and b) allows me to change the format of the recorded file to MKV (I’d rather have MP4, but whatever).

I am really enjoying the DVR functionality. I used to have to view all the scheduled recordings and cancel the ones I had already transcoded to mp4 because WMC didn’t recognize they were already in the library.
I have only one real concern, I did accidentally fall for the “Update Available” before I realized that the DVR is a special build. Isn’t there a way to have this function installed as a module? I know it is embedded and can’t be a plugin, but it seems that the base class stuff should be able to be released in the main branch without having any functionality consequences to the main product while still allowing independent installation of this function as an add on.
It would be best if we were using the latest base class and bug fixes while we are using the DVR Beta.
Another item I am sure I saw in a review but can’t find now is the “rerecord” function. I have seen a few episodes that for one reason or another would like Plex to record it again for either bad audio or some random storm warning banner I don’t want.

I recorded two items today. A kids show I randomly clicked “record” on as a test. The other was a scheduled series recording later in the day.
The kids show this morning recorded fine and plays back even in “Transcode” mode.
“The Flash” that auto-recorded tonight failed after about 3 seconds. There is a file there, but it’s about 1.2MB.
I get the same thing when my Signal Quality drops below 60% on a couple of local stations. Signal Strength is great but quality suffers. Part has to do with my Antenna and Pre-amp setup is in my attic, but even with a tower 8 miles from my house, the Quality causes the DVR recordings to cause the video frame to stop and audio to continue, or end up just stopping if I do not uncheck the Partial recordings box.
The choices for recordings needs to be in the DVR Preferences area instead of having to click on something and then choose items that should not be recording item only, but system. Also the recording buffer needs to be allowed to change by the user if we are running the Plex server on a machine that is also being used as a main server.

I have a feeling the preferences could change locations, but not sure. Or, maybe they will have global settings by default with the ability to change per recording if desired? I agree it could be a bit more streamlined.
As far as signal strength goes, I have my HomeRun Prime connected to my GB Ethernet into the same physical switch my server is on. Given that I had ZERO issues with these same tuners, in the same place when recording with WinMCE I think it’s still a matter of tuning the app, not signal…at least in my case. I am still getting cases where it’s recording properly in Transcode mode and other cases where it’s not. Is it possible that there is something else going on…possibly, but I have no idea what it could be given the lack of problems in WinMCE.
I hope that there will be an option to view a grid-style program guide in the future. Also, it would be nice to be able to schedule recordings from a client device.
Hi. I did a silly thing and updated my plex server to the latest plex pass release whcih meant I lost DVR. I downloaded DVR Beta 3 to install over the top and gain back my shiny DVR features but it won’t let me as I have “a new version installed”! I really don’t want to uninstall Plex as that would be a minor disaster! Any suggestions on getting back my DVR features?

Are you accessing plex.tv/web or local host:32400/web ?
You need to access Plex.tv/web to see the newest UI updates.
Woah…what is the difference in connecting these two different ways? I tried the localhost option (substituting my local server name) as opposed to the plex.tv method. I am thinking it would give me more efficient streaming because I am assuming that by using the plex.tv method I am streaming through the internet even inside my home? I’m not sure about this which is why I’m asking.
@KaraokeAmerica No, logging into plex.tv will not stream media through the internet if you are local to your server. It will however give you access to the latest web UI and all included features. There will be no difference in what happens once you start playing media.
