There’s an existing feature suggestion asking about an option to indicate in which playlist an item is included (incl. mockup in the last post).
https://forums.plex.tv/t/indicate-if-an-item-is-already-on-a-playlist/361431
There’s also an existing suggestion to manage the playlist association through tags (as per your suggestion)… there’s even 2 “flavors” of this
I think it would be good for playlists to have a tag attribute so that they can be added to movies/tv library collections.
This would allow a movie/tv collection to have its associated playlist order to be grouped together and shown when that collection is selected, so someone can see the playlist exists and begin using it to watch the said collection (eg Watch Order playlists for Marvell Cinematic Universe or any TV series with Specials in it such as Doctor Who)
I use playlists to save trilogies and watch orders for movie franchises.
When I upgrade a movie’s quality profile, the new movie file replaces the old file on the file system. This removes the movie from any playlists.
Playlists should work like Collections: the movie isn’t removed when its file changes. Collections do not work for watch orders because you cannot custom sort them.
If that’s what you’re looking for, I suggest you vote/comment in those threads and we close this thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing the attention (=votes)
