I think it would be good for playlists to have a tag attribute so that they can be added to movies/tv library collections.
This would allow a movie/tv collection to have its associated playlist order to be grouped together and shown when that collection is selected, so someone can see the playlist exists and begin using it to watch the said collection (eg Watch Order playlists for Marvell Cinematic Universe or any TV series with Specials in it such as Doctor Who)
I don’t know if the solution is to have a tag attribute but I agree with solving this problem. There is absolutely no way to define a watch order for a set of movies.
Why the current Collections feature doesn’t work:
Collections do now allow you to custom sort like playlists.
Why the current Playlist feature doesn’t work:
Playlists come very close to achieving a watch order. Its flaw is when a movie file is changed (like when its quality is updated). I made a similar post here: Keep media in Playlist when file changes
I can see it is simmilar.
However while i am looking to solve that problem i am also looking to group simmilar movies together (all the Star Trek collections into a ‘mega collection’) or across libraries (Star Trek movies and Star Trek TV series) as well as perhapse media; music, movies, tv (Star Trek Scores).
Another example could be long running (Marvel) movie collections which can be watched in different orders (release date, MCU, infinity stone to name 3 different orders with the same movies) let alone following certain characters (Thor, Hulk, Iron Man) which dont just have ‘their collection’ but every movie they appear in.
Just mentioning… what you’re describing in your last post is already available using Collections!
