Just out of curiosity (and this might be completely out of scope or another topic)...but I was wondering if there might be a way to synchronize the watched/unwatched status of files between iTunes and Plex. A few other users have shown interested in such functionality [here](http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/29544-plex-database-itunes-library-synchronization/page__p__195437__hl__watched+itunes__fromsearch__1#entry195437).

It sounds like a bit of a stretch since I assume this status isn't tagged on the files but in the iTunes/Plex databases...but since you were able to get play count and ratings I thought I might ask. Thanks again.

hmmm, it might be possible. I probably won't be able to synchronize the "resume markers", so it will be restricted to only fully watched/unwatched content.

That would suit my needs plenty. My main problem (using the term loosely, of course) has been with TV shows…as I can never remember which episode I last watched, and if I switch from Plex to the aTV (or vice versa) I have no way of knowing. And, if I switch mid-viewing (be it mid-episode or movie), I would be content manually tracking to where I left off…so “resume markers” aren’t a high priority for me.



However, before I ask you to delve into this too much…let me clarify what I’m asking for, as it is not completely aligned with how the script currently works (to my understanding):



Basically, could we sync only watched statuses between both databases. That is, if it’s watched in one, mark it watched in the other.



i.e., If I watch White Collar S02E03 in Plex, it would then be marked watched in iTunes. If I then watched White Collar S02E04 in iTunes (aTV), it would then be marked watched in Plex. Now, no matter what I use (Plex or iTunes), the earliest unwatched episode is S02E05.



As I understand it, the script pulls info from Plex and tags the media files or updates the iTunes library…but won’t update the Plex database with information from the iTunes library. So, if this is out of scope, no worries.

just as an update. Some users were requesting a tool that could export the subtitles that plex downloads, so i have extended the script to also enable the exporting of subtitles (and soon artwork/coverart) too. Any interest in theme music exporting?

So one way it might work is if it was possible to re-map the media paths to a mounted network drive.



So that I could mount a folder from my server onto my mac, and then tell your tool that it should replace the first part of the path with that of the mounted folder.

Eg. the path in Plex says V:\Movies\Avatar.mp4, and I mount the Movies folder on my Mac into /Volumes/Movies, so the tool should access the mp4 file on this path /Volumes/Film/Avatar.mp4



Could you make that possible?

if you get a fresh copy of the tool, it should "make your day" :) I added a "-m" option where you can supply find and replace commands to modify the file paths. Take a look at the read me for more information, and you can easily play around with the command if you turn on debug output (-vv) and dry run (-d, --dry-run).
Let me know if you have any issues, or if it doesn't work for you.

Hi, I have installed python 2.7 directly on my diskstation and downloaded your zip file and am attempting to run this script on my synology (probably not as intended). I am having some trouble getting it to run. This is what happens when I attempt to run the script:

I just pushed a change that I believe will fix the first error.

The second one is a bit stranger, my guess is that the OS you are running on cannot use the sublerCLI tool (best way to find out is to try running it yourself, it is present in the zip file). Try running something like:

./SublerCLI-v010 -h

If this does not print out the help for the tool, then it definitely does not work. It's mostly objective-c code, so if you aren't running mac os x it is unlikely to work. If you can find a tool that can embed metadata into mp4 files that runs on your system, we can probably figure out a way to make this work for you.

First one was just a stupid mistake, should be fixed now.

#2 is along the lines of what I expected. The subler tool is what actually takes the metadata and embeds it into the mp4/m4v file, but it seems this tool (it’s a compiled binary) will not run on your system. If you find a command line tool that supports this for your system, let me know, and we can try to hook up something that would work for you.

amlucent is trying to run the script on his Synology NAS, which runs Linux, not OS X. So the SublerCLI you provide is clearly not going to work ;-)

amlucent, your best bet is to see if you can persuade someone to build sublerCLI for your particular Synology model. I'm not sure if that's an x86 or ARM based machine.
Edit: hmm, seems it's an Atom D525, which is x64. Interesting, that's what my home-built NAS runs...didn't realise Synology now used Atoms.

Yea, though most of the sublerCLI is written in objective-c, so it might be a bit tricky to get it compiled on a linux based OS.

So I just updated to the newest version (from a very old release) of the tool and I noticed that it now embeds a different image for TV episodes. In the previous version I had it was simply using the season thumb but now it seems to be using the episode thumb for each episode. I’d imagine this is more useful in more situations, but I was wondering if there might be a way to switch it back? I ask because I’d rather see season thumbs than episode thumbs in the TV section of iTunes.



I apologize in advance if there is already a clear and easy way to do this (It wouldn’t be the first time that I overlooked something).
