Right now the main “Movies” section does not count movies that are contained in collections. If I have 6 movies and 2 movies are in a collection the number of movies displayed is 4, not 6!
Can we have a movie count that simply counts all the unique movies please? Like it used to before collections arrived? I do like collections, and I do use them quite a bit, but it would be nice to just give me an actual “Total” movies count.
Filter by anything other than Title and you’ll get a more accurate movie count:
Thanks for that!
However, you’ve just demonstrated the problem with the “Sort by Title” Maybe I should call it a “bug” rather than a feature request?!
It does nowhere say that the number is a movie count.
It makes perfect sense if you call it an item count instead.
The end user is more likely to use the number as a “Movie” count than an item count given the context of the tab. It’s a classic engineering mistake, not taking into account the end-user’s most likely interpretation of what is presented to them.
I would have thought that, until I saw that the only thing it was counting was items - and the 136 Collections all my Movies are in one, or more of:
Now, I’m wondering if the ‘Bug’ is showing any count at all - I don’t need to know how many Collections 6000+ Movies are in and if I do I can see that on a Redundant Collections Tab - that serves no purpose for me as it shows the same 136 Collections the Movie View shows me.
You can have the library page behave that way. In your library’s advanced configuration, set Collections to Disabled.

This doesn’t disable collections, it just prevents them from being displayed on your library tab; instead, all of your movies are displayed in the default view and the count will reflect that. As Otto said, that number is a count of items in the current view.
Any collections you’ve created (either manually or automatically) will still be accessible from the Collections tab.

… and at my house the Movie Tab would be empty…
There are no Wild Mustangs at Ranco DeJuico.
lol
Keep in mind that the count shown is not the number of movies, but rather the number of items in the current view. This will change if you have collections shown/hidden or if the movies in those collections are hidden. Changing the view like others said gives the correct movie count because collections are not shown in those views, nor are movies hidden.
