I note that Plex Home Theater et al have added the ability to pick up trailers for movies, and to create playlists. While I understand that Rasplex lags the main distribution somewhat, is there any chance tese capabilites will be added to Rasplex in the foreseeable future?

I would hardly call 9 weeks 'several months', and that release was the best to date. As @dansvarre suggest, it is the summer, and everybody likes a break.
Yesterday the team released an update for B+ owners so that they can become part of the Rasplex community, there are no others fixes or new features in the release - 0.4.0-rc5 - and this can only be installed via the GetRasplex installer (it does also work on the standard B and I presume new users will install that version) and is not available in the update channel. There is no benefit for existing standard B users to upgrade as it's the same product but with update drivers for the B+ as it uses a different chipset for ethernet-usb.
Holiday season ends at the end of August and I can assure you that the full team are working on an exciting new release.
