I haven’t been able to find a recent discussion of this, so I wanted to start one. I purchased the Plex Pass mostly for the ability to have trailers added to my content. To be clear, I’m not referring to content for pre roll…I’m referring to trailers of content I already own. When the missus and I are sitting on the couch picking out a movie to watch, we like checking out a few previews and pick a winner.
Most of the time the trailers that the plex agent assigns to my content is pretty poor quality, even though the first hit you would find on youtube would be an HD quality official trailer. I would totally pay for the plex subscription just for the all-in-one feature of having it all in one place on the TV, rather than double fisting the remote to search through plex on the TV in one hand and searching youtube on a phone in the other hand.
Is there a way I can change agents for the assignment of trailers, or have it only search for HD content? I do not want to download 1,000 trailers from youtube and add/organize them into my library if I can change some settings so the agent finds better quality content.
You could try changing the quality settings in the app you are using. Look for “Remote Quality” or “Internet Streaming” or some variation of that in the settings page. The default is usually 2Mbps-720p on most apps. Bump that up a few notches and see if it makes a difference.
Not sure that will help, but those type of extras are from a remote connection.
Poor quality trailers happen on both my Nvidia Shield and the PMP on my PC. Both devices are hardwired to the Synology PMS. Every quality setting I can find I have set to “Maximum” or “Original”. I am running the latest server version (1.22.2.4282). All of my 4k HDR movies and TV shows stream perfectly even when skipping around.
It’s just an issue with when Plex grabs a trailer from the internet. Where does it source the trailers? All of my movies and TV shows are labeled correctly, and Plex has found all the correct metadata, but is there not one main source from which it grabs movie trailers? Some trailers are good quality, but frequently the quality below VHS quality, or the aspect ratio is super wonky.
Is there a way to direct Plex to grab trailers from a specific source or database, or somehow improve the quality setting specific to the trailers? I’ve seen this topic show up on Plex forums , but they’re all at least 4 years old, so I was hoping there had been an update since then. Do any of the Plex devs respond to these posts?
