Transcode directory limit

Server Version#:4.126.1
Player Version#: Plex For Roku
Plex îs running on a windows 10 box, I’m via Plex for Roku. Live TV is coming from my HD Antenna Connected to a HDHomeRun Tuner box on the network. This DVR is recodnized by Plex and is how I watch TV.

Over a few hours, If I never change the channel, like watching a sports event, the transcode directory becomes enormous. I can understand this may be used for the ability to rewind my antenna, but is there a way to limit the size of the transcode history? If I change channels, or go some place else within flex, the directory does get truncated.

I currently have to place this directory on an external drive.

This is why I allocate 12GB per tuner. Live TV / DVR puts everything in Transcoder cache before it goes anywhere else. RAM disk is the best use for this application because it’s fast and durable for the constant re-writing.

Example is my server has 192GB of RAM with 160GB RAM Disk for transcoding cache. I have 8 tuners. The 160 is way more than I need (typically) but I have seen it get more than 60% full during multiple sporting events being watched at the same time.

Thanks. Never heard of a RAM disk. But downloaded Indiask set it for 2Gb and no problems

So you had to place 2GB on an external drive?

Not on external. But in RAM. The tool imDisk allows you to allocate RAM memory and mount it like a regular drive

You said that.

Since the 2GB ramdrive is apparently enough, then your transcode directory needs aren’t that big at all. Not sure why you’d need to place the directory in an external drive if it’s just 2GB. That’s not “enormous” that’s tiny.

It is tiny. But when the directory was in the 1TB external, it would not limit itself to only 2GB. Day long March madness without ever changing channels filled that drive. The ram drive auto truncates at 2GB
