You should add transcoding of Dolby vision in particular profile 5 as I have some devices that just won’t decode it so Plex should tone map it instead of throwing in error.

I found this tool that was able to convert DV5. I added it to my processing script and it took care of all my problems with DV5.

I am relatively new to using Plex but have already rung into this Dolby Vision problem. Can you elaborate more how to incorporate this script. Can it be run automatically when I run video on plex?
It could be an additional bucks just for DV7 and FEL - Kodi can do it, so it should be possible for plex too, though i use a plex pass.
and i am willing to pay again just for DV 7 - but does plex really have to license it again, even if the device is already licensed?

No. It is a script that will need to be run on the files with the issue manually. There are tools that can automate it, but that might be more than you need if it’s just a few files.
