Most of my music collection is in FLAC format. Although Plex successfully recognises these files, when playing them via the web player they are transcoded to MP3 format. I am able to successfully direct play any AAC audio files I have, so I would expect Plex to transcode to AAC when requesting playback of a format that the browser cannot play (such as FLAC).
Is there any way I can get Plex to transcode to AAC instead of MP3? I have “Prefer AAC Audio” enabled in my settings, but this appears to have no impact on music transcoding.
Thanks in advance!
I haven’t tried playing an AAC music file. For video, yes, but not for music. I don’t know if the music player can handle AAC. There shouldn’t be much difference between stereo AAC and stereo MP3. What’s the desire for having AAC?

The music player appears to be able to handle AAC - if I try and play a track which is already in AAC format, it plays in Direct Play rather than Transcode mode. I’d prefer to transcode to AAC over MP3 so that tracks could be played either in higher quality than they currently are or in the same quality at a lower bitrate.
With the release of Plex Media Server 1.0.0.2261 and Plex Web 2.7.0, Plex now supports transcoding music to Opus or Ogg Vorbis in the browser instead of MP3. No idea if that was because of this thread, but happy all the same!

Sure, lets go with that. :))
Oh gosh, that was a bad typo on my part! I meant thread, honest!
