"Transcode runner appears to have died"

On my FreeNAS, suddenly Plex can’t play any content that requires transcoding. Looking at the logs I see

Transcode runner appears to have died

I’ve tried optimizing database, reinstalling Plex in a new jail (I have Plexpass), rolling back to a prior configuration… nothing works. I’m stuck.

To be clear, no content plays on web, iOS or Roku, so it’s not client-specific.

Let’s get some debug mode server logs zipped and uploaded if you like.

I would suggest you restart the hardware, give it 6min to fully initialize, then express the issue, wait a minute, and download log files.

Logs

OK, I’ve attached them. Feel free to take a gander.

thank you sir I will.

EDIT: I looked the logs @richard_kiss and after the transcode session starts, PMS complains about timestamps in the MP4. Because the video you watched started out as an MKV, I’m guessing there’s a real problem with the transcoded MP4.

Here is the section of the log showing the video playback problem:

Because you said it happens to any video that requires transcoding, please restart PMS, give it 6min to initialize, then test again with another video that you’ve played before without problems. Upload the logs for that test also. We’ll be able to see if the common problem is MP4 timestamps from the transcoder.

On my system, I can’t recreate the problem. I tried with and without hardware acceleration.

I tried installing the “plex” plug-in on FreeNAS instead of the “plex-plexpass” plug-in, and my problems seem to have resolved. Even though I’ve paid for the Plex Pass.
