Hello.
My server has i5 processor and it’s not that powerful to transcode every movie on remote.
When i use Plex Player on PC is no problem, movies being downloaded as is.
Mean while on Android app setting Video Quality to original for some reason always converting.
It takes longer to convert then to just download it.
In my opinion, would be great to have a setting to set using conversion only in live viewing/watching. When you watch a movie/show remotely, and if connection between you and the server is not that great, it would downplay resolution/quality transcoding it on the server as you watching, delivering pre transcoded video stream, ensuring sustainability. Like the big video streaming companies manage it to sustain stable watching experience.

You mean Plex Media Player. This player is able to support almost any codec so it doesn’t need the server to transcode anything.

If it’s converting, it means the original video couldn’t be played as-is on that device.

PMS offers that. It’s called the media optimizer. You can choose what videos you want to optimize and these versions can then be used by your client.

These companies have multiple versions of a file so when your connection can’t handle it, it just sends the data from a lower resolution/bitrate version. PMS can’t do this because it doesn’t have these other versions to use. The media optimizer mentioned above is Plex’s way of handling this.
Thanks a lot
P.s. I love Plex, it’s awesome!
