Transcoder Quality

This is all a bit confusing. I just attached another HDHR Extend and was going through all the settings on it and on Plex’s DVR. On the Plex side, do I set the Transcoder Quality to ‘Original’ if the Extend’s transcoder is set to ‘Heavy’? In my thinking, if the Extend is transcoding on the fly, Plex should leave the file as is? My NAS doesn’t have the horsepower to do anything cpu-intensive. If I’m off-base, could someone steer me to the proper transcoder configs for both devices? Thanks in advance.

I actually made my post confusing as well… If I access the Extends’ trancoder setting through the HDHR interface (their program, not the Plex device settings in the DVR), the transcode quality is set to ‘Heavy’. In the Plex DVR device settings for the Extend tuner, the transcode quality is set to ‘Original’. At the Plex server Transcode Quality setting, I have it set to ‘Automatic’. So… there are 3 interacting settings it seems. Can someone clear the mud please?

As an aside, I downgraded to 1.6.1 due to buffering and restart issues and all was well. Decided today to go back to the latest version 1.7.5 and take a chance. Guess what? It seems to work. Roku still buffers and reset once. No issues with the Amzon devices. Just trying to get all the transcoding stuff straightened out.

I would say to set the transcoding on the extend and leave Plex setting set to original. But I don’t have an extend myself.
