Transcoding DVD vob to streaming (JW player)

Transcoding streaming
Hey ya'll,

First of all a big thank you to the dev team for excellent work! Loving plex!

So, I've been using Plex since version 8. And I've always wanted to be able to access its contents and play it back in a browser. (full access to my content - anywhere :D )

I havent been able to find any projects that does this, so I thought, what the heck, I can do this ■■■■ on my own :P

So far I've been digging in and exploring the structure of the http request you can do and the xml it returns. I've managed to setup a demo site where I can browse around my library (using PHP and parsing the XML with XSL for presentation).

Now I want to be able to stream my movies (which are all ripped DVD's in VOB format) to the free JW player (http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/) it supports the following video formats: Video Formats: H.264 (.mp4, .mov, .f4v), FLV (.flv), 3GPP (.3gp, .3g2), YouTube. ANd it can handle these formats with: Progressive download, HTTP Pseudo-Streaming and RTMP Streaming.

First of all I dont know if this is even possible..? But I read Evan's holiday blog post (cheers Evan!) on getting access to a transcoder. And I've been going over the sample.

What I am failing to grasp is: How do I (using the keys from Evan and the samplecode) get access to a stream that I can provide to my JW player...?

Since I'm a bit thick - please provide sample code ;)

Cheers!

Hey!

I’ve been looking into this too, but the JW player doesn’t support this yet.

@sander1

Thanks for your reply!

Okay maybe I wasnt clear enough (had alot on my mind :)). My main question was: how to get my VOB transcoded into a stream that I can hook up to. And what ‘format’ can the transcoder provide?

If JW player can’t handle the stream that Plex provides, then I’ll find another player that can.
