Hi Plex Community and Support,
I’ve encountered a frustrating issue after upgrading my server hardware, and I’m hoping for insights or advice from the community or Plex support. Here’s the situation:
Server & Player Details:
Server Version: 1.41.3.9314
Player Versions: Latest versions of Chrome, iPhone, Roku Player
Hardware Change:
I recently upgraded my CPU from an Intel 10850K to an Intel 285K while keeping the same Windows installation. After updating my Intel drivers and Quick Sync, I’ve run into problems.
The Issue:
- Live TV: When transcoding live TV without forcing Direct Play, the stream quality drops significantly across multiple players.
- Subtitles: Burning subtitles also causes poor transcoding quality across most players.
What’s Working:
- Normal transcoding (e.g., 1080p to 720p) works fine.
- Direct Play works as expected.
- My NVIDIA Shield handles most content well, likely due to its better support for Direct Play.
Other than the CPU upgrade and driver update, I haven’t changed anything on the system.
Key Questions:
- Is this an issue with Quick Sync compatibility on the Intel 285K?
- Are there known settings or optimizations I should review post-upgrade?
- Could this be a driver-related issue or a configuration mismatch between Plex and the new CPU?
Any guidance, tips, or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need logs or additional details!
Thanks in advance,
