Transcoding problem (only for 1080p) combined with CCwGTV 4k

I have a weird problem that has appeared in the last couple of weeks; I was away from home between September and mid oktober. Before I went away this problem didn’t exist. Now that I am back it’s there

The problem is that my CCwGTV 4k will play 4k movies native resolution cropped in on a 1080p TV, while not giving me the option to transcode to 1080p. The options that it gives me are only 720p and lower. If I select option to Convert Automatically I get the error of “An Error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”

In settings if I force Adjust automatically ON and Home streaming quality to whichever 1080p option then video just loads endlessly but never starts, with no error.

I have most (if not all) of my video collections in hvec 1080p or 4k. Before I went away I could play my 4k movies transcoded to 1080p on my tv with CCwGTV 4k. Now even the movies that I have already watched via 4k to 1080p transcoding don’t work anymore.

So all my 4k movies play native resolution cropped in the middle, but only on my CCwGTV 4k. All other players are transcoding perfectly fine to 1080p. Tested with: Apple TV, plex player on windows laptop with 1080p screen, iOS player.
The expected behavior is what I have when I play on iOS-app and cast to the CCwGTV, it plays 4k natively but scaled down to the tvs resolution. 1080p transcoding is also working via iOS app.

In the CCwGTV plex app I see the following line popup up around the time I get the error message:
e: [ExoPlayer][EventLogger] playerFailed [eventTime=15.75, mediaPos=1509.21, window=0, period=0, errorCode=ERROR_CODE_IO_BAD_HTTP_STATUS

The Plex Server gives me: [Req#361d8/Transcode/f92ecfe4254f8f70-com-plexapp-android] Transcode runner appears to have died.

I would like help to troubleshoot this issue.

I’ll try rolling back the plex app version but I’ll need a minute to figure out how to do this on a chromecast with google tv.

Shouldn’t need to transcode here. The CCWGTV should play the 4K content natively and then downscale to 1080p for sending to the display.

If content is actually cropped like you said this sounds like a playback settings issue. Check the Plex app to make sure it’s set to Letterbox mode (to add letterboxing to content with aspect higher than your TV). Also check the TV’s settings regarding zoom.

Install the Downloader app. Then you can browse the Plex for Android thread and download/install previous app versions of the Plex client app.

Right, the letterboxing setting solved the issue.
That was very difficult to find, thank you very much for the assistance and explanation!
