Transcoding to Rasplex

Hey,

 

I recently purchased Raspberry Pi to act as a second HTPC for my sons play room. I originally intended to install openelec / xbmc onto as that's what I use on my main HTPC. I noticed that SD and most 720p movies would run fine, but it would struggle with most 1080p movies which I sort of expected in the first place.

 

Then I stumbled upon Rasplex and thought that transcoding those 1080p movies would be a much better idea than having to re-encode each of these movies on my server. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but is there a way to force transcoding locally / over wifi?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Right now you should go with RaspBMC + PleXBMC. Thats a good working solution at the moment, but i bet that rasplex will get equally good (if not better) soon :) Love the good work from those guys :)
