Transfer Plex Server from Windows 2010 HP laptop to Synology 218+ Server?

Server Version#: DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4
Player Version#: 4.12.3

I currently have my plex server installed on my laptop, which is obviously not strong enough to stream plex. I recently got a Synology DS218+ server. I got 4 GB of extra ram and an 8 TB drive to start. I plugged in my usb drive and have copied over my movies and tv shows that I converted and uploaded from DVD. Now I am not sure where to go next. I’ve never worked with a server like this before. I want to make sure I got everything uploaded, and I would love a way to compare the 2 drives.

I also need to understand how to set up plex on the new server, so I can move the Plex server instance from my laptop to the server.

Can someone please point me in the right direction? I’m a database developer, but servers are not something I’m super advanced in, so a lot of it seems very obscure and confusing.

Thanks for any help!

This will help you with the physical transfer of the PMS application data from Windows to Synology.

NOTE:
It will want you to setup a server,

  1. Give it a new friendly name which you’ve not used yet (temporarily) to avoid any confusion in Plex/Web. When names are duplicated, it can get confusing.

  2. As you go through the new setup, Your library sections will still exist. Have no fear. There is no need to create them… SKIP over that part. The wizard doesn’t know the data is coming from another system.

Configuring permissions for the shares on the Synology are shown here.

Thank you. I haven’t installed Plex on the Synology server yet. Does your 2nd part of your info assume I have it installed on the server? I haven’t gotten that far yet.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

It does. The instructions presume you have installed the package via Package Center and allowed it to startup once then stopped it.

When the installation is performed, all the top level work is done.
Letting it start once completes the rest
