Can you disable Direct Stream and Direct Play in the preferences of the Roku client app?
(Sorry, I don’t have a Roku, so cannot tell you where to find this preference.)
Yes, I can disable both of them. I’ll give that a try and see how that works out. What does this do, exactly?

For what it’s worth:
The Current 7.7 FW has caused me to ‘Force’ Direct Play on my Roku.
Otherwise - transcoding happens at random for no apparent reason.
Forcing direct play gives me an issue that causes the audio to not play at all. I’m not sure why, but this has always been an issue on both my Roku 3 and my Premiere+

It forces the server to transcode everything under every circumstance. It is just to prove a hunch of mine, it is not intended to be permanently that way.

Gave it a try and it is still stuttering, unfortunately.

Bummer.
Did you say if this happens in the web app as well?
If it doesn’t, I have a hunch it is Roku-specific. In which case I can only recommend you to go here, since I have unfortunately no experience with this device.

If Direct Stream is disabled Plex will not try to transcode an audio stream. That type of transcode isn’t the worst thing that can happen, BTW. It’s easy to do and shouldn’t cause any issues. If we could see an XML for the file we would probably know why you don’t have any audio.

It does not happen on the web app, just on the Roku. I’ve posted there as well but no answers yet.

I’ve posted an XML on the first page, but here it is again.
Yea, sorry… that looks like your standard AC3 5.1 to me. I can’t think of a reason it won’t work unless your TV or System just can’t deal with it. There are no specific controls in the Roku App for audio as those will be handled by the Roku in it’s main audio settings.
I have mine set to ‘Auto (Dolby D)’. My TV can deal with AC3 5.1 apparently - or ‘Auto-Pilot’ is kicking in. Regardless AC3 5.1 works at my house even though I have nothing more than some external speakers plugged into the headphone jack on the TV - go figure.
That is a rather strong bit rate on the video stream, but otherwise doesn’t look out of whack.
The subs are forced - if they’re not UTF-8 they’re going to want to transcode I would think.
I would enable Direct Stream and set Direct Play to Forced.
Play the video.

Arrow left to the ‘Equalizer thingy’

Arrow Down to Stream Info and it should tell you exactly what is happening with the streams.
Tell us what it says.

It says Direct Play and mkv as the format. Those are the only two things that show. Still no audio, however.
If your TV or Audio System (if you have one) can’t deal with AC3 5.1 (fairly apparent at this point) you should select ‘Stereo’.
Do you have audio now?

It was set to Auto (Stereo) but I set it to just Stereo and still no sound. My setup is a soundbar connected via an optical cable to my TV. The soundbar is a Sony HT-CT260
Well, then I guess you should make sure Direct Stream is enabled and set the Main Roku Audio to Auto Dolby D.
Seems like one of these settings should produce some audio - at least that’s what we usually hope for.
lol
If the units can’t deal with the audio the way it is Direct Stream will allow Plex to transcode an audio stream. If Direct Steam is disabled - there’s little hope of that happening.

So should I try Direct Stream enabled with Direct Play forced still? If that’s what you meant, it still doesn’t have any audio, even with Dolby D set in my roku settings. Idk why I’m having so many problems.
The Normal Settings - that work in most cases for everyone are:
Direct Play Auto
Direct Stream Enabled
Ideally if the material can Direct Play, it will Direct Play, and if the audio can’t Direct Play it will be transcoded with Direct Stream enabled.
On my Roku 3 I have to set Direct Play to Forced because the Current Roku Firmware is as buggy as a Taliban’s Turban, but I don’t know how your unit reacts.
The audio settings on your Roku should be set to allow audio with whatever set up you’re using and I have no idea how that works at your house - I only know what works for me.
It’s at this point, more advanced help should show up - or @OttoKerner should take the baton, because I’m out of ideas.
Also at this point this thread should be moved to the Roku Forum and the thread you created over there should be deleted in the hopes that someone with more experience will stumble on it and give you the ultimate answer (yea, that’s a stretch).

Hmm, alright. Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it. Hopefully this gets resolved soon because it’s driving me crazy.
@AliMusa I don’t see any indication why that video would be stuttering, but we’d be happy to investigate. Are you able to provide a sample or the full source with us? That would allow us to try to replicate the issue and provide Roku a sample if it’s firmware related.

I would love to provide a sample but unsure how to go about doing that. Please let me know and I will get one over to you, right away.
