Troubleshooting - Download Logs Fails - 500 Internal Server Error

Hello,
I have an issue with my Plex server where the transcoder seems to fail every week or two, this is has been going for a long time and I can’t figure it out. Restarting the docker container fixes the issue. I have tried to download logs as it has just failed again but I can’t download logs. Is the issue connected?
I would like to go through the logs to find the issue but when I click the downloads logs button I get the following error…
”500 Internal Server Error”
I have tried this on wifi, on ethernet, remotely, locally, using different devices, using the app, the webui.
Please can someone help? I’m hoping if I can get the logs it might point in me in the direction of my real issue of the transcoder randomly failing.

Use the public release, 1.42. The beta release has the new transcoder and Plex is still working out the kinks.

Manually retrieve the server log files. They’re in the Logs directory in the Plex Data Folder.

Thanks for the reply. I have switched container to the official plex media server template. Logs are working and wasn’t too bad to setup. I’m hoping this will fix the transcoder issue, but at the very least I have logs again. On version 1.42. I wonder why other templates are using 1.43 if its buggy. Thank you.

Plex makes beta releases available to users with a Plex Pass.

I don’t run Plex in Docker, but from what I understand, if the container supports and is configured to use the beta release, then that is the one you’ll get.

Beta releases are, by their nature, less tested than public releases. It is expected that problems will crop up.

As mentioned in the release notes, PMS 1.43 is a rather large update. Plex updated the transcoder from FFMPEG 4.x to FFMPEG 6.1. The 1.43 release will stay in beta for an extended period to better shake out any problems with the new transcoder.

Your pragmatic issue maybe resolved with the latest release and is worth exploring the new Server version and Web Player.

If you try the latest beta and the problem returns, please manually gather the server log files that capture the problem. That may help Plex diagnose the problem.

I’ve already reverted to to 1.42, as that’s what the official container is set to. I’ll see how it goes, thanks for the advice! I’ll report back in a few weeks
