I’m now having an issue with transcoding TrueHD 7.1 to 5.1. When I select the 7.1, the screen distorts in a crazy color show. Im able to direct play the HEVC MKV movies, and ive never had this issue before. My Synology DS918+ is not even close to maxed out while transcoding, yet the picture is a blur. I direct play everything on my Nvidia Sheild, the sound bar is a Samsung 5.1 that i believe only does DTS 5.1 and DD 5.1. So this is the reason for the transcode, but the audio is 2x better coming from the lossless version then choosing AC3. Anyone have any ideas?
Sounds like the Intel driver problem. See thread linked below. Scroll up to first post for a picture of how the problem looks.
You can try disabling hardware acceleration, but that will probably max out your CPU.
You can also try the preview build linked in the thread.
Thank you! I downloaded Putty, found the directory, but not sure what command to remove the file.
I had to do this same thing on my server running Ubuntu 19.10. I don’t remember the exact command but here is your starting point:
sudo rm iHD_drv_video.so
The “sudo” forces the command to be run as an admin, which you probably need to do for deleting a file
Don’t forget to restart plex, or just reboot the whole server once you’ve nuked the file.
You’ll need the admin password as well.
You can also issue the command sudo -i to become root (and not have to preface multiple commands with sudo). Use exit or logout to return from root to userid login.
If you upgrade PMS it will reinstall the driver, so you’ll have to repeat the process.
Any updates to an actual fix? This is still an annoying issue to have.
Not sure if that could be a solution for you but i had a similar issue appearing when trying to play movies with 10-Bit.
On the Nvidia Shield you need to activate the HDMI-Passthrough Option. Than the colorful picture should be gone and you are able to watch your movie normally.
If you already did that, than i don’t know any other solution.
Yes it has HDMI audio passthrough enabled.
So an update on this.
Certain movies don’t have this issue. I can select the TrueHD 7.1 and it properly transcodes to eAC3 5.1 just like it is supposed to. But a large amount of other movies don’t work properly. Makes no sense
I have the same issue. Searching the forum will show this has been going on for years with Plex. I am using 2017 Shield and my server running on Win10. The trend appears to be 4K HDR HEVC Disney REMUX files with TRUEHD, the video plays green and garbled with a small scrambled square in top left corner. The files play fine when selecting AC3 5.1 audio track. Using an RU8000 TV and R50C soundbar. Other NON-Disney REMUX files such as Bad Boys II will transcode the TRUEHD to EAC3 and play fine.
*HDMI passthrough is enabled and Shield connected via gigabit LAN.
Yes mainly disney movies. Also the 4k versions of the original batman collection
