it works.
that’s what I did:
I disabled HDMI CEC
updated shield + plex (automatic)
usb audio mode to 5.1 surround and reboot ! (very important)
after reboot, passthoungh to auto
Plex> advanced> direct forced play
live stream> disabled
passthough> auto or enabled (something like that)
it works.

I hope it works for you too.
All formats are OK
Force Directplay seems to be removed from settings…
I now have problems playing 4K movies stored on my super PC. (i7 7700K with 16 gb ram and so on)
It was a week ago or so, that this was not a problem. But it might be something with the new Nvidia 6.3 update that messed up Plex app?
I know I am necro this thread but I too am having these issues on all of my devices, (chrome cast (both 4k and 1st gen), PC’s (4 different ones with different specs) (web client), android app (multiple devices), and nvidia shield (2017). If anyone has found a solution to this that would be a great help thank you.
I’m experiencing a different TrueHD 7.1 issue where Plex thinks it needs to re-transcode my 4k movies to 4k. My CPU can’t keep up with that and buffers every 3 seconds.
If I switch the Audio track to the AC3 5.1 (director commentary) and then back to TrueHD 7.1, the issue goes away and everything plays gloriously in 4k with HDR.
I’m streaming to a Samsung TV, but maybe this workaround will help you too?
Oh jea Baby!!! This way is working for me.
Direct stream 4K (HEVC Main 10 HDR ) and Dolby Atmos sound without transcoding anything after switching from TrueHD to 5.1 and then back to TrueHD
