@nijel8: Not sure what could be causing this, but it kind of sounds like the storage for settings is full causing it to fail to save new values. The only thing I can think to try at this point would be a factory reset of the TV to force clearing storage.
Do you setup custom home for multiple users (and if so how many)? I’m wondering if we’re hitting a storage limit.

I was thinking the same, even have read about the same issue with other tv’s on this forum and it was fixed with reset but it didn’t fix it for me having resetting the tv few times.
Only one user on this tv so doubt it is a storage issue. But some interesting observations makes me thing it has to do something with the still-buggy firmware/Smartcast OS on this tv. It is a known issue that tv doesn’t restore some picture settings(luminance, motion) after power off/on so this might be part of the problem. Just don’t get why it only started with the latest app v.5.8.1 and only happens after longer(few hours) period of tv being OF. Issue did not exist with early access app!? App settings routine changes in 5.8.1!? Or some magic that disappeared with the old Plex for Vizio app v.3.x.x !?
Also after tv reset to factory settings Plex playback works flawlessly for a couple of days all day long and then suddenly starts crashing (exit to Smartcast screen while playing) every 2.5-3 hours like a clock. Like something somewhere gets corrupted over time on this tv…!? And not being able to do any logging/debugging related to these issues is very frustrating…
