Try out our new Vizio SmartCast preview

Yeah, we’re not carrying anything over other than the token (so you remain signed in) currently.

Thank you for continuing work on the Vizio app! I’ve had a Plex server for awhile, but I just “cut the cord” on YouTubeTV due to the price increase, and bought an antenna and HDHomerun. Setting it all up was easier than I expected it to be!

One issue I have with the Vizio app and Live TV specifically, though: Sometimes I can’t seem to tune to a channel in which a show is about to end – like, I’ll select the channel in the Guide and press the “OK” button on my remote, but there’s no response from the app. It still responds to all of my navigation except that it will not start playing after I press “OK.” If I select a different channel on which a show is not about to end, it usually tunes just fine.

I don’t know if this is related to whether a show is being recorded or not. It’s not a problem 100% of the time, but it seems to only happen on channels in the last ~5 minutes of a show.

Thanks for the report. Filed an issue to take a look at this.

Sorry, no, this is happening on my other Vizio TV and insecure connections are allowed. Adding a direct server also doesn’t help. And in the current app I’m getting an indirect connection which doesn’t make any damn sense. I’m on the same LAN and I can ping the TV from the Plex server.

I just got my Plex Pass and Live TV works great on the web app and my Android phone. On my Vizio TV I switched to the preview version of the Plex app but I have no option to select the new Live TV option that came with my Plex pass.

What am I missing? Any help is greatly appreciated thank you.

So (to clarify) are you saying in the Preview version of app you were able to access the app, then the servers IP address changed and now you can no longer access it from the Preview version of the app? Also, when you say the address changed do you mean the local or public address?

Can you access the rest of the libraries on your server? If you don’t mind, could you take a picture of the home page and share that (PM it to me if you like).

Hello,

Has there been any fix for the time displayed on the Vizio SmartCast preview? It was a minor annoyance that the time displayed was off before, but now that I am using the DVR function for local channels, it is very difficult to see what is actually playing right now if the live TV has been going for a little while.

For example, if the current time is 8:30 pm MST, the live TV guide shows 3:30 AM. The EPG on my Plex server would be at 8:30 pm. My timezone offset is UTC-7, so it appears that my TV displays UTC time for Plex and does not take into account the timezone offset.

If I can provide other data for this to get fixed, I will.

Please don’t assume a TV remote will have a ‘back’ button. My Vizio TV does not. My DirecTV remote controls the TV but the ‘back’ button does not work with the TV. Please provide a way to back or exit out of all places using arrows and select button only.

Vizio E60-E3 ver 9.0.7.3

Nothing yet. I was able to reproduce the issue, but it at first glance it looks like a TV issue. We get the time from the TV. Have you tried unplugging the TV and plugging it in again?

We support the TV and it’s included remote. The Vizio SmartCast TV remotes all have a back button.

If the DirectTV remote’s back button doesn’t work with the TV, then that is a failure of that remote that you should probably address the issue to them.

Thanks for the quick response. This is exactly the reason for my post. I have attached 2 photos of the remote that came with the TV. There is no button on this remote that performs the ‘back’ function of your app. The functions are:

Power on/off
Change Input
Smartcast (go to tv apps)
Aspect (Change aspect ratio)
Vol +/-
Channel +/-
Play/Pause
Mute
PIC

I am sharing this information so that now, while you are making changes to the application, you will know that there are TVs out there, possibly many, that do not have a remote with a ‘back’ function. For paying subscribers like myself, it is very frustrating to try to use your NEW app without having a back button.

It looks like that remote doesn’t have directional buttons, so it wouldn’t work for controlling any app. Looking at the documentation for your TV model, it appears it directs you to use the SmartCast app (which does have a back button) to control the TV via your phone or tablet to access apps.

Hello @ruuk

I’ve tried unplugging it, soft resetting it, and changing time zones. TV shows the correct time and other apps show the correct time. Most items on my network are synced to a local time server I run on my network. I’m not sure what the issue is. It wasn’t too important before, but now that we use the Live guide and DVR, it is a much bigger annoyance. I haven’t switched back to the old version to try yet, as I like almost everything else about this version (especially the ability to play FLAC files through the TV).

Let me know if there is any info I can get you or if there is something else to try.

So, shortly after posting my response, I played around with my TV set time settings last night. While running Plex, I switched from AZ time zone to central. Time changed on the Vizio, but not in Plex. Tried restarting Plex, and it still showed UTC time (so the time zone information was not altering the displayed time for Plex). Fixed the time zone and soft-rebooted the TV, and no change to Plex time displayed. Changed the time in Vizio to 24-hour time format. No change in Plex time. Restarted Plex and still no time change (still showing as 12-hour format). Changed it back to 12-hour in Vizio (still in 12-hour in Plex) and no change in Plex (still showing UTC). Soft rebooted Vizio again and Plex now showed local time!

For every change I made previously to the Vizio time settings, Vizio would display the adjusted time correctly, and as would other apps. Plex did not alter the time displayed at all with those changes.

Not sure what changing Vizio time from 12-hour to 24-hour and back to 12-hour did to trigger Plex, but that is what seemed to work.

Just wanted to say this is a awesome start and for some reason this really is a game changer not having to use another device to navigate and play. I know this is new and you guys have things to fix so I’ll just keep it to bugs other people might not be getting. I get randomly disconnected from my network only using this app. Idk if its the server refreshing that forces the reset but I have checked everything else and it’s just on the Plex app. TV shows and movies reset Everytime which isn’t that big of a deal. Needs to go to the next episode when one ends, I’m sure you’ve heard that one though.oh here’s one. The loading icon is immobile, just three dots with no movement. Oh here is a big one. As a plexpass lifter I was super bummed I couldnt snag subs in app. Anyway that’s all that comes to mind. Again you guys are Killin it. Keep up the good work and thank you for this awesome service.
