Trying to understand the DVR Tuner/OTA setup

Hello all we recently became Plex Pass customers but aren’t sure yet if it is for us. We have DirecTV with 3 televisions and a ton of other devices (iPads, Apple TV, Fire Stick, iPhones, laptops, etc.). We are thinking of cutting the cord and I have looked in to Huli Live and DirecTV now, but neither has the locals in my area. I’m not interested in connecting multiple indoor digital antennas for the 3 TVs, and of course that wouldn’t work for the devices over the WiFi. HOWEVER, the Plex Pass connected to a DVR Tuner and antenna which I read about intrigues me. It seems that we would be able to buy one DVR Tuner (SiliconDust Home Run?) and a good indoor antenna, connect that antenna to the HomeRun, and away we go with Plex Pass. I don’t know if I’m proficient enough to set this up. I want to be able to get programming like ESPN, so don’t we need at least one premium service like DirecTV Now, Hulu Live or similar? Also more importantly, am I reading correctly that if we get the HomeRun and connect it to a digital antenna, we can broadcast live TV streaming to any device connected on my network? I would love to get local channels on any device and also take advantage of only requiring one antenna. This seems the way to go, but is it too good to be true? What am I missing?

Yes, HDHomerun tuner for OTA channels(Local), then you could use direct tv now and/or Hulu for the cable channels.

I use the HDHomerun prime(x2), as I have cable TV, which allows me to stream to all of my devices whether on the network or off.
Caveat… I use the Plex addin channel for the HDHomerun. It seems to be more reliable for me as it works on every platform and device I’ve tried.
Keep in mind that the each TV itself may need a firetv, appletv, roku or the likes for your plex connection(unsure of your setup.

FYI, The plex DVR portion will NOT work with apps like Direct TV, Hulu, PS VUE or the likes, only the OTA signal you are putting into the tuner.

Hope this helps abit

To be clear, Plex does not provide content. The tuner + antenna does not magically get you content. The antenna picks up the OTA signals in your area, so that is what you get. Things like ESPN are not OTA so you will not see it. If you want to see what channels you can receive, get the antenna first and connect it to a regular TV.
