I sleep with my television on. When it goes off I immediately wake up. Up until a month or so ago I was able to create playlists in my Plex account and could watch them all night without getting the “Are you still watching” pop up. Now it comes up randomly. Since I am sleep, I can’t answer the question, my TV goes off, and I wake up. Is there anyway to turn this feature off. I can see how this is a good feature during certain times, but it does not work for me in this instance.
There’s a feature suggestion for that for which you can vote…
That’s the problem. It On and Enabled.
Surprise!
How does one DISABLE it.
This is not a feature suggestion question. Someone has already suggested it. I want to know how to turn it off. I don’t want it.
The fact that there is a feature suggestion should tell you that there is currently no way to turn it off.
That feature request is for enabling Still Watching - that’s already been done - on some clients.
That feature request isn’t for disabling Still Watching.
A feature request shouldn’t be necessary to add a user option to an existing, newly implemented feature, forced upon users by surprise - and turns out they don’t want it?
Feature Request to invent Still Watching.
Done.
Another Feature Request to turn it off?
Really?
I’ll bet I’m not the only one in this thread that finds that unacceptable.
Actually, that request says "…an “Are you still watching?” option that will pop up after a server specified number of items played / time passed.
Neither the “option,” nor the “server specified number…” have been implemented, so you could say that the request hasn’t been satisfied.
Technically, I guess we’re both correct.
So there’s still time to get that user option in before the request is filled - but unfortunately our fearless thread starter needs it RIGHT NOW 'cause there’s a ‘Feature’ with no user option making his life miserable.
Does that about cover it, @itgreen9 ?

There is an option that has not, yet, been mentioned that fixes this particular problem: Switch to Emby.
Emby and Plex are similar but quite different as well but the “Are you still watching” and “Play next automatically.” are fully customizable in Emby.
I mostly switched some time ago and I now use Emby much more than Plex.
However Emby is different and does things that Plex does not do and doesn’t do some things Plex does and does many of the same things in very different ways.
One other difference is most questions asked reasonably politely of Emby (provided you include the basic info) in their forum get quick and accurate answers by one or another of their developers.
It is a matter of personal choice but I do not think that you can evaluate Emby, Plex or any like system in a real short time. I believe you should give it a couple of weeks at least. It took me several months to be real sure which one I wanted to use for most of my media viewing. You can install Emby on the same computer that is running Plex and in many/most cases they can even run at the same time but you can also just stop Plex from automatically starting and give Emby its freedom to get well stabilized on your computer. Then you can get enough info to be sure what you want.
BTW: If you try Emby be sure to turn on “Advanced options” during library creation and examine the extra options presented. There are quite a few choices there that I find very valuable. The ones I like best are to store bif and nfo files with my media as that makes a lot of maintenance somewhat easier. I do not store artwork with my media but I am considering even doing that. My media drives have a lot more space than my main server drive. Also I have three servers and by storing that stuff with my media it gets shared between all the servers.
JuiceWSA… thank you so much for your attempts at trying to clarify this…
My post is not a suggestion… My post is simply referring to a feature that has already exists, I just want to disable the “Are you still watching” question that pops at random times. Can someone tell me how to do that?
Hi Elijah_Baley… Thank you so much for your suggestion. I have been using Plex for years and as you said most of the people in the forums are very nice and helpful.
I have tried Emby but stopped using it for some reason or another, I will reset it up again though as I cannot sleep without my TV and this waking up every night 2 to 3 times a night to restart Plex is not acceptable,
OMG. It should be clear by now that we’re telling you there’s no way to turn it off.
You are very rude. There are better ways to explain things to people. Thank you for your response, but in the future I would like you to refrain from assisting me.
My apologies. Sometimes my frustration gets the better of me.
Apology accepted . Please understand I am extremely frustrated as well and have not slept through the night since this started. My system was working fine and all of a sudden it’s not, all because someone did not think to add an on and off switch. I will try Emby tonight and hopefully get some sleep.
Thank you answering my question and thank you for your apology.
i think the problem here lies in that this was suggested as a feature and it passed the feature suggestion phase and then became a fixed part of the plex experience. It should have ultimately been added as an option to enable it in the beginning. Not after x number of uses. The fact that a few people requested a feature and now its forced on everyone is ridiculous.
This would be like me suggesting that plex run commercials every 15 minutes so it feels like a “real tv” and then it gets passed and you are now forced to sit through commercials that you didnt want with no way to turn them off. That would suck right? Well other people wanting this feature added and then Plex forcing it on everyone SUCKS.
Look what Emby has!!!
i want that for plex! i stream off an android tv and apple tv, neither have it. Is there a way to do a “Are you still there” with a script that can be placed on the server?
