I love the ability to watch video after video non-stop. I use this a lot when falling asleep, but I’ve noticed if I have a playlist of shorter videos playing it will keep playing each consecutive video for quite some time. I’d like to have a check in place to see if the user wants to keep going after a certain time.
Description:
As a user, I’d like to confirm that I want to keep streaming videos after a certain amount of time (could be in 45 minute chunks) so that my devices don’t continue to stay awake and play videos when I’m no longer paying attention.
Examples:
The Netflix apps implement something similar to this. From what I can tell, after about an hour of watching videos, before the next video starts playing the user is presented with a question of “Are you still watching?”. If the user clicks “Yes” the timer is reset (for another hour, or whatever time is decided upon) and the playlist or sequence of videos continues playing. If the user clicks no or the question times out, playback stops allowing the device to ‘go to sleep’ and stop streaming.
Other:
This feature could be added without any configuration (automatically set to a timeout the Plex team feels is right) or it could be set in settings or even disabled for some in settings. It seems like starting simple on this then expanding based on user testing / feedback could be a good way to go.
Amazing idea.
But first things firs:. it’d be perfect to add the continuous play feature without having to resort to playlists or the play queue (on all app but mostly the android tv pretty please).
Like, you start watching episode 1 from a season and automatically when said episode is over it plays the next one and the next one. Basically, it automatically creates a queue with the entire season when you play just one episode.
And of course when you press “play” on the TV shows (or TV season) itself, it plays the unwatched episode.
This is basically what Orca did in the Samsung app.
And if on top of that we have @zmcgaughey feature request, then it’d be time to start popping champagnes bottles guys.
I don’t mind the idea, but I want the ability to turn it off if implemented. I personally hate the Netflix app for doing that and wish I could shut it off. But I can see where others would like that ability.

For when you fall asleep? Personally I like some background noise from a movie when I sleep.
I pretty much agree that it is a reasonable feature but, since I NEVER use continuous play I would NEVER want to see it. Under NO circumstances should it interrupt a playing movie or TV show. I should only pop up between playing items.
@aeonx: Yeah I too like some sound while sleeping. Maybe it could be configured to start music playing when it is not responded to. Perhaps some nice relaxing Death Metal?
BTW: Tobii = http://www.tobii.com/ Interesting but not something I would like in Plex. What my eyes are doing is NOT what I want Plex to know or track.
I hate having to answer this question when I’m marathoning something. If you want this to happen, set a sleep timer on your PC then shut off the sleep override for plex. Use the already existing technology to accomplish this instead of requesting a feature that gets in everyone else’s way please.
