Have you accepted that plex incorrectly gloms onto empty file hashes and stubbornly refuses to let them go without an asinine and ridiculous “plex dance”?
Are you now also half way there?

I’m about 90% there.
To restate: I’ve accepted that I have to instantiate files elsewhere and then atomically move them into plex.
This ACTUALLY DOES MAKE MY USE CASE FUNCTIONAL THANK YOU VERY MUCH LIESTENN!!!
And I’d just like to point out that nobody in this thread told me that. Nobody.
Nobody had any working solution. Period
Sorry nobody told you. That does suck. Keep up the good fight. If you(we) win this I swear I won’t take any credit
It’s because they can’t even acknowledge a user is even having a problem.
It’s just blame the user, blame the user, blame the user. Right up to Liestennfuckers latest post. It’s a godawful script and I’m tired of it.
Just post the log so they can see why it’s merging and then they can tell you how to fix it.
You’ve just lost my empathy when you start being abusive. We are not near to cop abuse, we are users too. If you don’t like Plex then try something else.
I know why it’s merging. I figured that out.
It’s because of partial files.
I’ve suggested several times now that that can be fixed, and it shouldn’t be that hard at all.
And it would totally fix the plex dance, probably in all cases. I’m sure of it.
but nobody wants to hear that plex has a bug apparently.
“and they can tell you how to fix it”
see. it HAS to be my fault. something I’m doing wrong. Something for me to do better on.
BLAME THE GODDAMN USER.
Drop that stupid script FFS
You talking about the id10t (pronounced eye-dee-ten-tee) error… We all know it well.
It’s obvious at this point you’re trolling. Upload the logs with an actual bug report so they can either help you or fix the underlying issue, or just stop posting.
Honestly, this thread should be locked.
I told you the exact issue.
File gets created. Plex indexes the file. File changes. Plex doesn’t give a ■■■■.
Another file gets created. At creation time it looks the same as the previous file. Plex indexes the file. File changes. Plex doesn’t give a ■■■■.
Both files were the same at the time plex indexed them. They are no longer the same. Plex doesn’t give a ■■■■.
This is the exact problem. I’ve tested it.
so… i thought of a really stupid simple way of fixing this issue.
make your system record to a NON-plex library … like D:\ActiveRecording\ … then just make a scheduled task (or CRON job if on linux) to move files not in use every x minutes or hours to the plex folder.
seriously. this IS NOT BUILT as a “let me put live recording security footage here” app. its a “let me host a private netflix server” app.
THE WHOLE WORLD WAS NOT BUILT TO SUIT YOUR EXACYT SPECIFIC NEEDS STOP THINKING IT WAS. god fing jeebus dude you need a freaking chill pill or some anger management courses or something.
If you dont like how it works, go use something else or go build your own. the plex staff arent about to cator to your one specific need, and at least 10 people here have explained how to fix it, and your thick skull refuses to accept ANYTHING anyone has said.
Meanwhile users continue to be flabergasted in utter annoyance in multiple threads about multiple bugs and WE STILL HAVE THE INSUFFERABLE PLEX DANCE and it all stems from this inconceivable assumption that a file will never change, that mistakes will never be made. And if there’s a mistake, oh NBD we’ll just wipe the entire thing and start from scratch, all in 10 “easy” steps! (yay plex dance!!)
Community is here to help solving bugs. If the creators clearly don’t care after a year of reporting than the rage is at place. Don’t forget we have payed for the product and this is 100% bug. Resulting with the statement users are naming files wrongly is so provocative if they often are not in charge of naming them… If Plex offers folder view then it should behave accordingly on every aspect not just semi-corrupt attempt which leads into such a mess. Otherwise remove such an option.
So far I has been promoting this solution all around and at least 3 people have bought Plex lifetime over 4 years because somebody as me was propagating your good job. So in order to keep your rank in the community listen to them. It is in your interest at the end to maintain solid product.
| had to change to a share folder media share software due to plex not working correctly merge is the worst idea I have seen in the years of enjoyment I had with plex. I am glad I did not buy the lifetime yet till they get the software out of years of beta.
