This is more of a question for the creators. Plex spends a lot of time finding all the artwork to make everything look nice however when it comes to tv shows especially multi seasons the artwork that is always shown is for the tv series itself not the season. In which case why waste the time and resources on season artwork that is never shown apart from when you browse through your own library. Can this be fixed?
If you have local poster images, make sure they are named so Plex will recognize them. This Help page explains:

I agree, it doesn’t make much sense to always show the TV series poster instead of the season poster on the home screen. LOL - There hasn’t been too many votes for the request in the last five years, and it obviously hasn’t been implemented, so I guess it’s something that doesn’t bother too many people or is on the radar for Plex.
