I am going on a roadtrip that’s going to have intermittent internet next month and I’m planning to binge an unwatched show. I can’t download all the episodes as I don’t have that much space on my phone, so I have been playing with the automatic episode download options for a TV Show. When I download a show I’m selecting:
- Download: Next 3 Unplayed Episodes
- Delete downloaded episodes: On next refresh
Playing with this I found that it will download the next 3 unplayed episodes and remove the 3 I’ve watched already automatically after I’m finished which saves me space. THIS IS AWESOME!!! and is the perfect use case to my scenario.
The Issue
I tested it with a TV Show (Full TV Show Download) that has specials that I haven’t watched yet since they fit within future seasons I haven’t gotten to, and all it’s doing is downloading the specials episodes, not the seasons.
Workaround
- I have no issue with those settings when doing it by a particular Season (which makes sense since it’s not designated to download Specials)
- I can remove or rename the Specials folder so Plex doesn’t recognize Specials and removes those from the show.
In my opinion, the intended functionality should be how it is done when playing a Show where the Specials are played like they are a part of the Season. For example: when playing the show (non-downloaded) it would play like: E1, E2, SP1, E3, E4. This should be the “Next 3 unwatched episodes” functionality as well and it should download E1, E2, SP1.
