I have all my TV shows organized by Genre in separate folders. (Action, Superhero, Thiller, etc) When I added the top level TV Shows directory, all hell broke loose and most of my shows are incorrectly named. It looks like Plex thinks all folders inside Action are all the same TV show with the name Action in it. I do not want to re-org all my meticulously organized files so I am looking for advice.
Do I need to create individual libraries for each TV genre and only add the Genre folder to each? My shows are organized like this:
Action/The Last Ship/Season 1/The Last Ship S01E01.mkv
Also, do I need to add a zero to the single digit season folder names? It looks terrible and would be a pain in the butt to do. Any way to modify this Plex requirement?
No, you should just need to add each genre folder separately. You cannot add the root folder but each library can have a number of folders. However, if you do it that way, you will not be able to easily see the folder structure you are using as some clients do not allow a “folder” view.
I have found it easier to not try to use folders to group movies or TV shows but, rather, use genre tags (I simply create such as needed) to separate the media.
Since Plex has added “collections” I find “collections” an even easier way group media the way I want.
