TV Themes don’t play [BUG]

Same issue here! “Play Theme Music” is checked. PMS is on adopted storage.

Someone posted this on Reddit on a topic I posted

I was having this same problem with my plex media server on the shield with my content coming from a NAS. couldnt get any theme music to play. after searching around in the files i found that in my content folder named _stored the theme music folder was empty. under my content folder there was a separate folder named com.plexapp.agents.plexthememusic which has the correct theme music downloaded. i copied and pasted the theme music into the empty theme folder under _stored and that seemed to fix the issue after a metadata refresh. Pretty tedious problem to fix for each show but will fix the problem. hope in the future that the plex app will fix the issue of theme music not being stored in the proper folder for adaptive storage option.

Any fix for this coming? I haven’t seen a dev address it in any of the threads that have been made on this issue.

I have a TV Library (external HDD) and a DVR library (auto deletes after being watched) and the DVR one does not play theme music while the external TV Library does. My DVR library is in the internal Shield storage.

where do you find that content folder? Can you provide specific instructions for this? I use my PC to host external hard drives, which are shared over my home network and my 2 SHIELD PMS’ use the network shared storage to serve up media.

I’m bumping this as a long time as passed and this issue still exists.

I don’t understand why such an easy issue to replicate can’t be at least acknowledged and in this particular case it shouldn’t be something hard to fix at all as well.

Why not have a single thread containing all the known bugs acknowledged by the Plex team? Otherwise what can users do other than keep complaining about these issues? We don’t even know if the issue is already known and acknowledged by the Plex team…

Thanks for reposting this. It’s fixed my problem after months of fighting with my Plex setup to get the theme tunes to play. Considering how long this issue has been outstanding I think it’s pretty shoddy that the Flex techies haven’t addressed what is pretty shoddy workmanship that should never have passed quality control.

Adding to this thread as I’m in the same boat, any ideas on when we might get a fix for this?

Issue still being ignored…

This is what the logs give me when I refresh the metadata to try and get theme music using the Shield as a Plex server.

Having same issue here…no fix in sight…

It isn’t working for me on my Shield PMS either.

Not having the theme music isn’t that big of a deal to me…but what is frustrating is the complete lack of response in any capacity from Plex. Those of us that have found our way to this post just want to know if it is a known bug or if is something we have wrong in our set up that we can fix ourselves.

These forums are extremely helpful and the knowledge and experience that other users contribute here out of kindness is wonderful. But I do wish that Plex offered some sort of official mechanism of technical support for its paying customers. Or at least was more vigilant in responding to posts. I absolutely love Plex but I feel so helpless whenever I have an issue because I know I’m relegated to the wild wild west of a forum post which may or may not ever get a response.

I have PMS working on a wd my cloud home and theme music are not working for me on any client app on android, android tv or ipad. any one with a solution yet?

I am on the same boat without theme music, running Plex on Nvidia Shield TV.

Same here. Not working on iOS and Android. Working in Plex Windows 10 App and Plex Media Player (Web and TV Layout) and Web. Plex Theme Music Agent is enabled. XML has grandparentTheme="/library/metadata/…" entry

iOS (5.9.1) Theme Music Volume is set to 50%
Android (7.9.0.8439) Play Theme Music is enabled

Server: 1.14.1.5488

Bump. The silence about this bug is deafening. Are the devs even paying attention to this forum??? So many months later and still no response.

Noticed this recently on my shield server. Then tried my.old windows 10 backup media server(ie old) and works perfectly…come on Plex guys…surely a bit of a rewrite code could be actioned by your talented engineers one afternoon could do the trick!!!

Have the same problem. Old TV shows play the theme music, but new ones do not.

People of PlexWorld

I’ve managed to get all my themes playing by manually putting them in the correct locations and wanted to share my findings with you. It doesn’t fix the underlying problem but is a workaround for now.

I’ve just recently joined the Plex family and am in the process of setting up my server on my new Shield (thank you Christmas sales). The trial run server on my PC would play the themes, but I found, like you, that the Shield server does not. Also, like you, I have triple checked all the ticky boxes and settings are correct. I saw the post on Reddit that i2fat2kidnap repeated in an earlier post on this thread and used it as a starting point. So many bundles to look through, which one do I need? I noted that one of the info.xml files in the relevant bundle held the show name. Below is what I did, use it as you will.

  1. Move the data to the internal user accessible location, which is part of the server settings on the Shield.

  2. Refresh metadata for each show to ensure the themes are present, either downloaded or from local assets.

  3. Backup the entire com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb folder found under Android\data, just in case.

  4. Use Notepad++ (free to download and use) to search for the bundle associated with the show. In Notepad++ under Search > Find in files, set Find what to your show or part of your show name, set Filters to info.xml, set the Directory (in my case \SHIELD\internal\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server\Metadata\TV Shows) and click Find All. This will take time depending on database size etc. In the search results pane, the highlighted bar above the section containing <title>show name</title> will give you the bundle to navigate to.

  5. Navigate to that bundle folder (eg \SHIELD\internal\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server\Metadata\TV Shows\3\5e96fdfe9d93b050060dbbfd2d8e416d2fda141.bundle) where you should find a Contents folder, then at least the folders _stored and com.plexapp.agents.plexthememusic, possibly also com.plexapp.agents.localmedia if you have local assets. In each of these will be a themes folder, _stored\themes is where your theme mp3 should be and is most likely empty. If these are not present, try refreshing the metadata.

  6. In the themes folders of either com.plexapp.agents.plexthememusic or com.plexapp.agents.localmedia should be a seemingly randomly named file (eg 8f9a34ef5cc890a50c209be7fed4c35a8506d756) which is your theme mp3. You can copy this file to another location, give it a .mp3 extension and play it if you want to hear it at this point. Copy this theme file and paste it into the _stored\themes folder.

  7. Refresh the metadata again for the relevant show in your Plex console and you should be able to hear the theme play as soon as the refresh is complete and you select that show.

A bit of a long post, I know, but hopefully nice and easy to follow. If you manage to trim any of the steps, please share.

Cheers
