Two things on my Mind that I wish I knew the answers to

I know you can click on a title in your library and then click on the feature “Where to Watch”. When you click on a service like Apple or Fandango (where I have alot of purchased items) it will play the title in that respective app which is really nice and helpful? However, I have 2 questions:

1.) Why is this feature only relegated to phones/tablets? Is there a reason this is not incorporated into Roku or other streaming devices?

2.) Suggestion: When you click on a title in your library show (say… Seinfeld Season 1 Episode 1, which I own all seasons on Fandango. My wish is you just click on that episode, it could bring up options to play episode. For example, 1) personal library (2) watch on Fandango. Then you can click the right path and “voila” you can watch directly on Fandango app/site.

Some platforms don’t allow “deep linking”, i.e. steering users coming from outside of an app to a particular item in that app’s catalog. Roku is among those platforms.

Plex doesn’t know if and what you have bought in other streaming services. There is no information exchange between other streaming services and Plex. The only link is the information delivered by justwatch.com

Thanks for the explanation. Does any other device like Apple TV/Fire TV/Android TV offer the ability to allow dep linking that is available on my Iphone and Ipad? Love this feature by Plex. I also know that Plex does not know what we owe in other services, but could these options be allowed in Plex when you click on a title and the different places such as Fandango or Apple be available.

I’m not sure what you mean by “allowed”.
If you have added certain streaming services to “your streaming services” in Plex, then you will see them listed among the More Ways to Watch, when on the preplay page of a movie on your Plex server or on watch.plex.tv

Please follow the last link I’ve set above.

I know you can see them in “More Ways to Watch” but if you have the title in your library. It would be a more aesthetic experience that when you click the title itself, you would be prompted to play it in A) personal library or B)list out the certain streaming services to click on and play without going under “more ways to watch.

Honestly its a good thing that Roku and others dont allow this.

I may be misunderstanding how you imagine it might be implemented but I think most folks who primarily use their servers local files (even if they sometimes use More Ways to Watch/Discover) would be very upset if something prompted them every time they accessed media on their server. Though i understand the possible feeling of “just add a setting” for those who want it, adding a setting for things few people would use is something devs/designers generally try to avoid because it very often causes a support nightmare in various ways.
