Just my experiences I had, if they help someone…
Dell T410 running ESXi 6.5, accessing media over NFS.
As soon as Plex Media server got installed on Ubuntu, it would crash the vm. I made several virtual machines trying to figure out what the problem was. Never thought to try E1000 NIC so I don’t know if that will fix the problem or not. I can confirm this issue also existed on the newest version of Ubuntu as well, 19.04.
I ended up making a new virtual machine with vm hardware version 9 (esxi5.1) and a VMXNet3 NIC running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Desktop to fix the problem.
That’s a known WMware problem … back down to an earlier version / lower compatibility level.
You can search the forum on it for specifics.
e1000e was an older issue with LRO and Ubuntu 16.
The current seems to be VMware itself. Users change the compat level / older VMware version and everything is fine
