Unable to access portable hard drive

My portable hard drive which is plugged into my mac doesn’t show up when trying to add a library? All of movies are stored on this 2TB drive. What are the option for 800GB of movies that I don’t want on my working computer?

Map a drive to the portable drive. Add the mapped path to your library. I’ve done this in Windows for several years.

Make sure you DO NOT have automatically delete content enabled.

You don’t mention what macOS you are using but on the newer ones you have to specify that an application has access to either “Files & Folders” or “Full Disk Access” in the System Preferences/Settings. Plex won’t be able to access your drive until you give it permission from the OS. This may be why you can’t see the drive in Plex.

Good Luck,

Chris

Thanks Chris! Is this found in Plex? Sorry I am very new to this

In the system prefs of your mac.

depends on what version os MacOS you have but you need to give it persmissions for removable drives

mac OS 12
Security___Privacy

this is MacOS 13 ( i gave it full disk access

I have the Big Sur 11.7.1

then it should look like top image in the MacOS system prefs

This is how mine looks I don’t see Plex at all. I check below Full disk as well

Oops I don’t see Plex at all in Full disk or Files and Folders

Then click on the + sign at the bottom of list. In the window that opens navigate to Plex Media Server, which should be in your Applications folder > click open to add it to the list.

That was it thank you so much!!

I was going to ask too can I include subtitles for movies?
