For some reason my the Plex server on my 10.14.6 iMac has stopped responding. Safari says that it can’t open the page because the server dropped the connection. I have turned off all virus software and firewalls, changed the router and DHCP server but nothing makes a difference.,

“Prevented fallback to insecure connection for iMac” might indicate the problem, but I can’t change any server settings since I can’t access the server.

I’m at a loss …

Look for the server logs - see
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

We are aware of an issue with version 1.18.7 for users that have an iTunes library that gets loaded into Plex. The problem has been referred to our development team.

If you do not have iTunes media please provide the server logs

I am on 1.18.7.2438. Deleting the preferences file allowed me to get to the settings page. However I am not able to access any media - all libraries give me the not responding error. I did have two libraries (music, music videos) which pointed to my iTunes media files on an external disk. My iTunes libraries are separate, on the boot drive. I removed both libraries from Plex which referenced my Music (and iTunes) media files.

Still get the same problem, can’t access any of my libraries - server not responding. I also uninstalled little snitch and reinstalled 10.14.6 (leaving Sophos installed) but made no difference.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-22_19-08-58.zip (729.9 KB)

Not sure what state your system is in now. What exactly did you delete. Preferences get cached on Mac - see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/ for advice on making changes to Preferences on Mac OS.

If the settings have got reset, you would get a new machine identifier and all security tokens would no longer be valid. So you went through a new login to plex.tv and claim for the server. What happened then? Did you do anything to the database or that is still in the same place and as before. There may also be some cached account info within Plex Media Server cache area

Are you trying the access directly on the server ? and have you tried
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and see what happens ? logging into plex.tv with the same email account the server is running under

I do not see any errors in the log

Is the original database still being used?
It is this file
/Users/dmoor/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

The libraries would be defined within this db

The list of the libraries would be returned in requests like this

http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/sections?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxx
and
http://127.0.0.1:32400/media/providers?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxx
where xxxxxxxxxxxxx is the security token for the server which is within Preferences and can be read in command line in terminal as follows

defaults read com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineToken

Reading again your feedback - you say
all libraries give me the not responding error.

So libraries do show but do not open up?
I cannot see any attempt within the logs for opening any library

The only references to specific libraries are you deleting two libraries at these times

Are your tests to open libraries with Plex Web ? Could you concentrate on doing it on Plex Web and we can add plex web logging (settings / web / show advanced / debug / enable verbose and save changes) and then later after browser refresh and attempting to open a library, get a screenshot, note down the time and then get the plex web log (settings / web / show advanced / debug / view log / select all and copy to text file) and get server logs again and I can then look at that exact time what the server received and also what plex web logged

I deleted /Users/dmoor/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist

I had also had deleted two libraries that referenced my iTunes Media (Music Videos, and Music) earlier but for some reason they came back. Left them in. My iTunes library is located on my boot drive, the media on an external drive.

and made sure no Plex applications were running. I then started up the plex media server.app in applications.

Connecting to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/account

I saw that I was still logged in. I signed out and signed back in to claim the server. All of my my libraries give the error that the server is unavailable. I edited one of the libraries, confirm that the file location is correct, and save without making changes. Dashboard says that it is updating the library. But when I try to access it I get the same unavailable error.

I then connected to the systems IP address 10.0.0.114. and that address, confusingly, asks me to log into my Plex account as my server is unclaimed. So I log in again and get the same error message.

I have not touched the database so it should be /Users/dmoor/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db

Uploading

http://127.0.0.1:32400/library/sections?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxx
and
http://127.0.0.1:32400/media/providers?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxx

I have only been accessing Plex via Safari (Plex Web?), not the Plex player. Tried accessing 2 libraries at ~12:25-12:26 am.

(settings / web / show advanced / debug / enable verbose and save changes) and then later after browser refresh and attempting to open a library, get a screenshot, note down the time and then get the plex web log (settings / web / show advanced / debug / view log / select all and copy to text file) and get server logs again and I can then look at that exact time what the server received and also what plex web logged

Done. Note that I have 2 other Plex servers. The QNAP server is currently not online, the Synology is.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-02-24_00-30-47.zip (731.6 KB) debug log verbose.txt (56.6 KB)

providers.txt (11.7 KB) sections.txt (5.7 KB)

Thank you. Plex web is using the wrong IP address for the server.
Before you make any changes, could you get me the xml from this and send it to me in a Private Message as it includes server tokens

https://plex.tv/api/resources.xml?includeHttps=1&includeRelay=1&auth_token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Replace the xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the token you used last time

After this, you can consider making DHCP Reservations in the router for all your servers local IP Addresses so they do not change.

For some reason Plex Web is using 10.0.0.108. May be it was cached in the browser data storage.

You could try first in a private incognito browser session to see if it makes a difference

Has the server name changed ? Because I see iMac Pro and not David's iMac Pro 2018 in the server log.

Also server IP changing

Xml sent in private message. Have updated to latest Plex version

There has been an issue with my router for some time. I was using static addresses but would get a “duplicate ip address on network” message even though there was no other device using that ip address. I then did a DHCP reservation on my Comcast TG3482G router, but even though I set it to 10.0.0.100 the reservation address kept changing. Plex did not have any problem with this (which has been going on for months) until about the time of the last update.

Don’t remember ever changing the server name. In sharing preferences it is set to iMac Pro.

Private incognito browsing also does not work.

Is there a reason I can access and update the server settings via the web but can’t access the library? If I can access the server, why can’t I access the libraries?

Wow. If I go to setting/manage/libraries and click on a library, such as movies, it works. I can select, change sort criteria, everything works except that the list of libraries in the left frame are still inaccessible so I can’t manually ask for a specific library rescan. Automatic rescan when files are changed does seem to work.

Is there another Mac with a name David's iMac Pro 2018 that had an IP address of 10.0.0.108 and was running version 1.18.7.2438-f342a5a43 - last time on the network on 21 February ?

Have you been copying preferences / migrating from one machine to another. The name has 2018 but the server was first registered with plex.tv on 24 May 2015

Would have liked to have seen the plex web verbose log to see if it was trying the iMac pro

If the “David’s iMac Pro 2018” does not exist as a machine, lets remove it from your account. In Plex Web sign in and then select “Authorised Devices” from left side bar and remove the server… and suggest clearing browser cache

What is important for reliable access is to fix the IP address of the server. So do a DHCP Reservation for 10.0.0.114 for the iMac Pro or set it as static in network settings

No, at least as set in Sharing preferences.

I suppose the answer is yes. This machine was first setup in 2018. The files were migrated from an earlier system. There have also been many OS only installs, Application and user files preserved.

That did it! Side bar is now working.

Wish this would work, but unfortunately it doesn’t. Static address eventually gives a “duplicate IP address” even though no other device is using that address. DHCP reservation doesn’t hold. I set it for 10.0.0.100 and some hours later the reservation will change to to another address.
