Unable to delete File - Please check your permissions

… at the risk of jinxing it - several days now and all is well.
I wonder if the work on Plex.tv had anything to do with it?

What version number has been working for you?

Version 1.9.4.4325 Check for Updates Up to date <— coped the whole line…

Full Disclosure:
Yesterday, as a precaution and possible preventive maintenance - I upgraded my Asus AC66U Router’s AsusMerlin Firmware and re-forwarded my port (when I forgot to back up that part).

So now - if it continues to work as expected, I guess we’ll never know what exactly did the trick, but if it breaks down again and we can get Plex to ‘Reboot’ Plex.tv we may close in on it. This is just my layman’s brain working though. The layman in me just wants to delete files from the client without issue, like I used to.

Jinxed it… “Unable to delete file. Please check your permissions.”

Restart PMS - no problems… for a while… interval unknown.

yup, gotten up to 1.9.4.4325 and issue still persists.
It actually had a file locked for 7 days.
Will update to 1.9.6.4385 tomorrow and see what happens.

When the server restarts it’ll be fine for a while… working time unknown.

oh I know.
I found the processes that were locking the files.
I provided log files.

Yes, and thank you.
I wasn’t in the mood to learn a whole new thing, just so I could report a bug. I’m very grateful you happened along.
I was confident that eventually a ‘you’ would show up - lo and behold - ‘you’ did.

I just noticed the same issue about PlexScriptHosting.exe locking my media files. What is wrong with the Plex app team? Why can’t they resolve such an easy problem?

was trying to be optimistic and updated to 1.9.6.4385 on Sunday.
Nope… still an issue.
Kinda surprised nobody from the Plex team has returned in over a month.
But… I see 1.9.6.4401 is available now. May try updating again for funsies.

Yeah. I don’t understand how these so-called devs sort out issues with Plex. One issue that is still not solved but is present for a very long time is the issue solved by the Plex Dance. We shouldn’t be even doing a Plex Dance every now and then in the first place.

Still not fixed in 1.9.6.4401

When they pack up the trucks, roll up the barbed wire, and leave - you can pretty much guess what that means:
“A Regularly Scheduled Server Restart”/“A Server Restart As Required”/“A Post It Note Stuck To The Lampshade: List of things to delete”…

I am sorry but I got distracted after starting to look at your diagnostics - would you be able to get me a fresh set from 1.9.6.4401 - I did actually start to look at the original evidence but there were some inconsistencies

Are you in a position to repeat your tests with OpenFilesViewer and getting logs and info on PIDs again and which files were open

Do you explicitly need an exported csv from OpenedFilesView, or do you just need the PID of the process causing the lock?
Doesn’t look like OpenedFileView provides any new details.
They also seemingly either forgot to remove the “Clear File/Process Filters” option or forgot to add the “Filter” option.

you can save to excel and send me by Private Message
And screenshot from task manager showing process names and PID numbers for all plex processes
and the logs please and the file being deleted and how soon after recording / watching?
Is it both DVR recordings and Live TV ?

Occurs with any media in either library configured as TV Shows.
Does not appear to occur in my library configured as Movies.
I’m not sure exactly how long in to the stream the lock takes place.

PMS log files attached.

18:46 (6:46pm)
PID 11248
The Last Man on Earth

1905’ish (about 7:05pm) (desktop decided to reboot)

PID 13524
Ghosted

Screenshot and OpenedFilesView is after the 2nd occurrence.
Apparently CSV are invalid attachments, so saved as XLS.

Let me know if I can help also in providing logs. But I can say that the cause is definitely because of PlexScriptHost.exe locking the files somehow.

could you check the date/timestamp of the xls file - I need confirmation that it was captured before before the server logs were captured. I cannot see any reference in the tvdv agent process log and need to be absolutely sure that it did not open the file after you captured the logs

OK I can see that the opened files viewer spreadsheet was referencing the log file for thetvdb agent that is in the zipped logs.
I still have a problem In that not seeing any references to the metadata id for the TV Show / Episode nor to the tvdb database id for the show.

Also I went tried to delete a test episode I added to a test library and it got deleted ok

Could DrivePool have anything with this?

If easily reproducible as it appears to be from the logs, could you do a test whilst running SysInternals Process Monitor and zip the PML file and upload on dropbox or similar service and send me link by Private Message

Also would like the media info xml for any test file being used to reproduce the problem
And the logs and opened files viewer as well as before.

I wouldn’t mind more examples and diagnostics as outlined to look at

It’s not drive pool. I just had to do a restart to delete a tv show episode and I don’t use drive pool. All media is stored on local drives.
