Unable to determine HEVC profile

Hello.
Today, my Chromebook updated to the new version of the app. Ignoring all the other downgrades this app is, I can’t even play any content on my Duet 5.

I keep getting “Unable to determine HEVC profile” for each thing I try to play. Can’t even force a transcode since the settings are crippled compared to the legacy app.
Disabling Direct Play or Stream does nothing.

Worst app rollout I have ever seen.

I have the same issue, when I run Plex via a browser it works fine, but the app never works.

Indeed. The web UI works fine, but touch controls on it are not that great. It would be great if the app worked.

Has a work around for this issue been found yet ?? really annoying having to use Web interface to view content

Sadly no. I have downgraded to the old client and disabled auto updating.

Try disabling the hardware hevc codec option in the settings.

Does plex host the old apks? I could only find them on other apk mirror sites but I don’t know how many versions back to go before this bug showed up.

One thing I dislike about chromeos is the need to go to developer mode to side load. I tried installing Plex via flat hub in the Linux environment but the Plex version (flatpak) doesn’t appear to support arm64.

I feel that. Lucky I already put it in dev mode when I first started it up just in case I needed to sideload anything later on.

I don’t really understand why they didn’t take their time with this new app.

I am starting to feel like this issue is never going to be fixed… You would think with it being what, almost 2 months now someone from Plex would ATLEAST acknowledge the issue.

Who knows what their priorities are nowadays. For example, this transcoding issue has been around for two years: Intel Quick Sync transcode quality issues on Intel 12th/13th gen CPUs

Not sure how much control they have over the QSV hardware transcoding support. Linux vs Windows and driver support are all kinds of messed up. I have an Arc A310 that works great, and it is passed-through in proxmox to a Debian VM. That one specific looks like it is FFMPEG related?

Tdarr, Jellyfin and Emby all transcode fine, so that issue is definitely Plex related. But that is another issue, this thread is for the disastrous app they released.
