Unable to transcode since update to PMS 1.18.1.1973

Plex Transcoder Statistics.1.log (7.7 KB) Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973
Player Version#: Plex for LG Google TV version 3.9.3b.309

Since upgrading the latest version of Plex, whenever transcoding is required I get a message saying unable to play media. This happens both on my local plex server and with a remote plex server.

I think this is related to the version of the player being used. Things were working perfectly prior to the upgrade (1.17). However since the upgrade I can only direct play. Any file that has subtitles, or DTS audio requires transcoding and this fails. If I use my chromecast, then the transcoding works perfectly.

Does anyone know if support for the Google TV client has been dropped, or is there a way to get an additional transcoder which will work with that client? The Android version that the google TV runs is Android 4.2.2. It cannot be updated beyond that.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

[update] I added the transcode statistics log
[update] One more observation. During direct play, files that have DD+ (Dobly Digital Plus) audio, the audio is transcoded and the video direct plays. The transcoding of DD+ audio seems to work.

Turn of hardware acceleration they broke it with this version.

Thanks for your response. I went through the server settings, and I am not finding anything relating to hardware acceleration.

Hardware acceleration was always off for me and it still would not transcode. I rolled back to 1.18.0.1944 and it seems to work better, but it still sucks. At least I can watch things now.

So I stumbled upon a weird “fix” for getting the DTS audio to transcode. Here is how it goes. I decided to create an optimized version for a file that has DTS audio, just to see if that would work on my TV. I chose “Optimize for TV” in the options. When that conversion was finished, I tried playing the file from my TV. The Plex server Dashboard showed it as playing, but it actually failed. But then, I tried playing another file with DTS audio, and magically, it was able to play the file. The Video was direct play, and the audio was transcoded to Dolby Digital. It was not able to do this before. After I deleted the optimized version that i created, it was able to play original file and several other files with DTS audio. So in summary, creating an optimized version for one single file with DTS audio, allowed me to be able to play all files which DTS audio. Even after removing the optimized file. It’s very strange, almost unexplainable, but I am thinking maybe transcoder was dormant, or something? I have no idea. I just know I can now transcode DTS audio. I did this test on another server as well and got the same result. Still can’t transcode video using the version of plex on my TV though (Plex for LG Google TV version 3.9.3b.309)

Thanks for this. One day, my wife was watching a show and the next it was unwatchable. After disabling transcoding, it works again.
