Uncompressed vs. Optimal - Need Help Sorting it Out

Hello all.
I have a problem that I have found pieces of an answer to, but never found a clear full answer so far in all of my searching.
Running PMS 1.3.3
I have a decent home theater and thus most of the movies that I have in my library are uncompressed Bluray rips with HD audio. I don’t want to sacrifice quality locally.
At the same time, I have quite a few family members that are using my server and they don’t need that…at all. My transcoding load is through the roof because every movie has to be transcoded.
I was hoping this is where the optimization feature of Plex would allow me to create a more optimized version of the file and use the uncompressed locally and the optimized remotely.
From what I’ve seen though, it doesn’t seem like Plex is picking the optimized file for remote users, it still looks like it is trying to transcode the original.
So questions:

  1. How can I force external users to use the optimized version of the file?
  2. Where can I see the info to show what version of the file that both remote and local users are using?
  3. Is there a better way to do this other than Plex’s internal “optimize” feature?
Thank you so much for the help.
